For Past Brides - any regrets or mistakes?

Original post by SoonToBeMrsONeill

I am not sure if this was a topic already but... Are there any major regrets/mistakes that you want to make sure current brides don't make?

Please share :)

I really dont have any regrets. I feel like i was so lucky to have everything go so smoothly & it was the best day ever. I dont have a thing to be upset about. The advice below is probably why it was so great.

The only bit of advice i can give is to remember that it is your wedding. No matter who is paying it should be what you desire, If your parents are paying some input is ok but they shouldnt plan your day. Also, do what you can. Not what everyone else wants you to do or what you think people expect from you. Dont over do it. Get what you need some extras ar enice but in the end if you can probably live with out it. Then save your money.

Good luck ladies.

wait don't you have to go to your guests tables at the reception? that totally stinks that it takes that long but i was told that if i didn't do this, my mother would have my head

so would mine! but i think if you are able to great your guest at the CH, that works too (i think someone suggested earlier to great as your guest leave CH and entire the reception, which I think is a great idea).

I think its great too.

I cant tell you how many times Ive heard a relative complain..'and they never even came over to say hello to us.'

it is rude if you think about it. yes, its our wedding, but they were nice enough to attend. we should thank them for coming.

Oh man, now we have brides saying DONT go around taking pictures with every table and brides saying DO go around and take pictures with every table... hahaha... I going to try and do it super quick! :P

For the love of god... DO NOT go around to the tables during your reception... you will regret losing like an hour from your 4 hr party time... believe me... As for getting pics of each table, have your photographer do that.... mine didnt and im a bit pissed about it... I have tons of pics of the couples but not tables as a whole... **** am i going to do with 50 pics of just couples...

ETA: Forgot to say that you should greet your guests at CH or as they are exiting CH and entering the recpetion.... it will save soooo much precious time.... Im so mad I didnt do this... we missed most of our CH with pic taking and only got like 10 mins with our guests ... which is why i had to go around to the tables... what a freakin time killer... ugh can you tell how upset i am about that??? lol

I am glad you posted this!!! I have always felt that it took way too long to go around to each table... I don't think we are going to do this.... I am not sure why anyone would be offended, every wedding I have ever been to I didn't expect this! Whoever wants to see us can come up to us!!! HA!

That's very true, but I think that we'll still do a quick round of 'hi's and thank you for coming' type of thing :)

Thank you for all of this great feedback ladies!!!

We did make the rounds to every table and I'm glad we did it. Some of the older guests will not spend much time on the dance floor, so the chances of them approaching you while you're dancing are slim. We made the rounds after the BM did his toast. Our banquet manager prepped us for how to keep it short and sweet and told DH that he would have to be the 'heavy' if people were getting too long winded . . . because if he told someone 'we have to say hello to so and so at the next table, but we'll chat with you more later' they would receive it better than if the bride did it. It really didn't take all that long . . . we were done well before the next course came out and then we could enjoy the rest of the party.

Re: For Past Brides - any regrets or mistakes?

Had an amazing wedding only a few regrets:

1. Did not ask for table photos honestly we did not think about it so we never got pictures of some of DH's older relatives and some of his friends.

2. I never saw cocktail hour , but I heard it was good. They brought us food in the bridal suite.

3. Where I purchased my dress!! They are an LIW Vendor. I loved my dress, but I had such issues and problems with them and so did my bridal party regarding their dresses. I wish I purchased my dress at another bridal place.

ITA about bridal party choices! I had too many b/c I felt like there was family pressure to have cousins etc, when I wish I would have just had who I wanted. Oh well, other than that, I was overly thrilled with vendors and the day

Re: For Past Brides - any regrets or mistakes?

not anything huge but a few things...

1. would have guaranteed lower even if i thought i would make my minimum. this could save a lot of money in the end. if you're under, youll still have to pay.

2. i would have had a friday night for the same price as a sunday...i wanted people to come to the ceremony which worked out but then people started leaving early because it was a sunday. i would have rathered less people come to the ceremony and more stay at the end. close friends and family would have still made it to the ceremony

3. dh says he would have spent the extra money to have the video and photog have a second person come to take pics of him and the guys getting ready

4. would not have spent money on a seperate limo just for dh and i to go from the church to the rh. we couldve ridden with the bp and saved a few hundred bucks

5. this is is minor but i would have ordered a flower arrangement for our sweatheart table, our boks on the table still looked a little bare

6. would have taken more time looking for dresses even when i thought i had the ONE. i ended being way stressed out and switched dresses 3 months before the wedding

7. not a regret cuz i had to go where i could at 3 months out but it would have saved MAJOR stress to go to a wedding salon close to home as opposed to going for fittings a month before my wedding, an hour from my house

8. LOVED MY rh but still i should have looked at others before making our decison. i sometimes look at others and just wish i had seen those too.

9. LOL...i wish i had gotten a little more drunk, lol or at least started drinking earlier, i was so worriede that i didnt want to get wasted that i was not letting loose until i had a drink and by that time it was close to the end, i had an amazing time regardless...all im saying is, i didnt have to be so strict with myself, it was my wedding day!

we went to ch and still went to each table. ch is obviously only an hr, and we ****** into long convo's and didnt get a chance to see everybody. ehh, it was worth a shot.

Re: For Past Brides - any regrets or mistakes?

i agree with mazz... it takes tooo long to go to all tables. each person wants to chat and take pics and it really really eats a lot of time.

If you HAVE to go to tables and you don't want to..... haha... try to maybe go to the tables when the tables aren't 100% full. I mean in one sense it sounds mean... but it will save you time and ensure you get to the people who aren't up and dancing, etc.

but really... i regret even attempting this. i doubt anyone would have realized that i didn't go all around. you see people constantly as you are being whisked all around that day.... so you will be able to interact with people that way.

Wished I had rented a photobooth and spent more for a more experienced photographer.

Re: For Past Brides - any regrets or mistakes?

just wanted to add something about ch/reception, saying hi to guests.

if you are planning to go around at the ch to say hi (which you basically have to because its weird to be at ch and since its casual, like it would like weird if the both of you were just sitting at your own table or whateva). anyway, point is if you go the ch, make sure to go early enough to say hi to everyone.

we only went to half and only got to say hi to half the room...then we had to waste more time at the reception going around to the tables since we skipped some people and now they were mixed in with the people who we already did. BUT i was very serious about not spending more than 1-2 minutes at each table. so i stayed by dh the whole time and we said hi to each table at the reception. we did the room in 10-15 minutes! the key was to kinda of keep distance from people when you say hi and try to avoid any personal hellos or theyll talk and stuff...do a general, hey everyone, thank you so much, enjoy everything. peace out! lol
