for the girls who parents are paying for the wedding..

ok, so, me and fh dont really have to pay for our wedding at all...unless we want extras, like limo's or something...and fh is supplying all the alcohol...

other than that, my paretns are paying for everything..

for you girls who have your parents paying, did FH's parents offer to help at all??

my fh's parents did offer anything..and i dont understand why, they have wayyyyyyyyyyy more money than my family...even if my parents would decline, i think they should still offer...agree?? disagree??

Maybe they are traditional and think the bride's family should pay. Or maybe they are going to give you a massive gift at the end?? Maybe :)

we are paying for our wedding but i think the guys family feels if the girls family pays for it that it is 'tradition' and they don't have to contribute

But I do agree...they should have offered something. Even tradition has some things the guys parents usually cover

Well my mom is paying for the RH. FH's dad is taking care of our HM and his mom is paying for flowers. Everything else, FH and I will be paying for.

My parents are paying for the wedding. FH's parents DID offer to help out. FH's dad even called my father himself and offered to help out, but my dad refused. He told us to put the whatever money they would've put towards the wedding into savings instead. He also told FH's father the same thing - to just give us a gift that we can put into savings.

HOWEVER, when my father started seeing how fast the money was going, he did mention, 'well Michael's parents wanted to pay for something.....why not have them take care of the limos?'

So as of now, they're only taking care of the rehearsal dinner (tradition). If we need something else from them down the line, I'm sure they'd be more than willing.

ETA: I definitely think your FH's parents should have at least offered to help with something.

Yes FH's parents offered to pay for some but my father refused since I am the only girl and he has been saving forever for this day. FH's parents are paying for the RD and our honeymoon.

I think in this day and age people don't expect the brides side to pay for everything b/c the cost is so high. But I don't think you (or anyone) should expect money from any side of the family to help for the wedding. I am very fortunate that my parents on paying for about 80% of the wedding, the rest is up to FH & I. But even though FH's family has money, I would never expect this of them, if they want to contribute great, if not, thats fine too. Personally, the less people contributing, the less complicated.

And they did contribute, they paid for our eparty and will help with the RD.

my parents are paying for the RH and they paid for the our e-party as a gift to us. FH and i are paying for everything else...dj, photo, limos, linens, rings, flowers, etc.
FH's parents are paying for the RD (which is tradition)

FH and I are paying for our own wedding, but maybe your FH family are going by tradition and thinks your family pays for the whole wedding. According to tradition the grooms family pay for rehersal dinner. Maybe you can bring that up to them.

fh's parents aren't contribuiting towards the wedding, but FH's dad is letting us live in his house for rent free while we pay off our debt and save for the long run. we are very grateful

fh and i are paying for almost everything ourselves. my parents are going to give some money towards the final payment for the rh, but thats it.

fh keeps saying that his parents won't let us pay so much, but i have yet to see a penny out of them, but it's early and we havent payed for much so far (just the e-party deposit, and rh deposit-->we have our first payment at rh due in a lil less than a month)

then again its our day and im used to paying for everything ourselves, so i really dont mind

he doesnt say much. it kinda makes me mad. Obviously, i cant really contribute becasue like i said, i go to school full time and waitress like 3 days a week--which gives me enough to pay my bills...

i dont think he realizes how hard it is to do..

My FH father did not offer either. Although I feel he has a valid reason why and btw he is well off as well but he is from Portugal he still has some very old world thoughts. Although when FI and I approached him to help he was open to it he just didn't think of it on his own

I would suggest asking FH to talk to his parents. Maybe they assume since your parents are doing most they don't have to or maybe they even feel left out but don't wanna start drama. Money is obviously a touchy subject but if you and FH are open and honest it should work out fine. Good luck!!
