For those marrying/married to police officers...

For those marrying/married to police officers...

do you ever worry when your FH doesn't come home right after work? Let me give you a little history.. My FH works the midnight tour and has since we met. I've NEVER worried about him...mainly because I try to not think about where he is going and the type of work he is doing (it helps believe it or not). I always tried to look at it like he's off to his 'night job'. Now ...given the recent events that have occurred in our lives...I can't help but worry about him. It scares me now to see him getting his gun ready for work, and even more when I don't hear from him in the morning. We usually talk every morning when he gets home from work ...and today for some reason I haven't heard anything. Am I being paranoid??? I just keep having these visions lately..and it's really freaking me out.

Ok I called him..which I try to never do..because the last time I did that he was watching a body...lol. He's in court right now...but I still worry!!

My DH is a cop on mids and sometimes I love the extra 'alone' time in bed, but four nights a week is a little excessive.

Here is my theory, and I am also the daughter of a cop.... They are expertly trained and retrained to deal with any situation that comes their way. 99% of the time they are doing routine things, it's that 1% that we get nervous about. Just trust in his ability and remember that he appreciates how much you worry and love him.

I am a little numb to it - and I usually make the mistake of 'making light' of the dangerous situations or not telling him if I am nervous or whatnot. It doesn't hurt to tell him that you sometimes get worried, but I never want him to feel like he has to worry about me. He just has to do his job and do it well.

HTH!

My DH is a police officer as well. Honestly, whenever I meet people, they ask me the same question. I don't really worry because I believe in his coworkers (great guys that would die for eachother). Are there crazy people out there? Sure! 3 weeks after we were married, a crazy guy tried to kill my husband! You can't let his profession drive you crazy. You will never sleep!!!

Like Leese said, trust in his training!!! And don't watch any cop shows, those make me more nervous then anything!

I'm not marrying a cop, but I do come from a family full of them, as well as my best friend who is NYPD. Leese is right about worrying about the 1% of times that something is going to happen. Every once in a while the worrying gets the better of me...but then I remember that something can happen any time, anywhere, to any of us.
