I had to get a fresh copy. I just went to the rectory and it took about 15 minutes. FH had to pay a nominal fee.

Yeah its normal that they ask for a copy of your baptism certificate.

I can completely sympathize with you !
Re: For those of us who are getting married in a Catholic Church.....
Yeah we had to do this too! How annoying! I still have to get mine from the church I was baptized (it's very close by) but my FH had to have a letter sent to the Archdiocese of the military because he was baptized on a military base of a church that no longer exists... and it took forever to come!!
Re: For those of us who are getting married in a Catholic Church.....
My fh's family can't even remember the name of the church he as batized in. it was in minnesot and the have lived in virgina since he was 3. we are screwed. i guess we wont be getting married in the church afterall! back to my plan of having coktail hour before the ceremony. :)
Re: For those of us who are getting married in a Catholic Church.....
Yes my church told me to get one 2-3 months before your wedding ~ yes they need to make sure you were not married in the catholic church...
Re: For those of us who are getting married in a Catholic Church.....
I had the same issues, my parents were abroad when i was born, in Ecuador, so i was baptised in a small countryside church too so m y paper work is all screwed up i dont even have a birth certificate because i lost it and need to get it from the dept of homeland security and i think ineed one to get my marriage licence, anyway back to the baptismal certificate, i had my cousin who was visiting drive 8 hours to this little church and the gave me a copy of my original one, which was all they had and this was 8 months go, then church told me that it had to have records of my communion and confirmation which were done here so obviously not on it. also he said it has to be recent within 30 days of the wedding.....so the moral of the story is before you take a trip to peru of send one of his relatives to get the thing make sure you get the exact details from your preist.
Re: For those of us who are getting married in a Catholic Church.....
We needed this as well. However, we are getting married in the parish I was Baptised in so it is more for FH to get his from his parish.
Re: For those of us who are getting married in a Catholic Church.....
the future mrs m.................I have a feeling that if you spoke to the priest you were going to have marry you and you explain to him the situation and that you cant get an updated one for FH...he will let it slide......this stupid (sorry) rule isn't from the vatican, its each individual church making it up, I have a feeling!!
Re: For those of us who are getting married in a Catholic Church.....
We were told we would need them... so I was going to wait till closer to the wedding to worry about that! I was baptized at Our Lady of Lourdes in Massapequa, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get that... and FH and his family still belong to the same church he was baptized at in Pittsburgh so he should be ok too! It's the pre-cana that I have to get started soon!
Re: For those of us who are getting married in a Catholic Church.....
I was told I needed an updated one. I actually just got one because I am going to be someones sponsor for their confirmation and then I have to get another one closer to my wedding.
