except for nieces, would you say that if a 1st cousin's wife asked if she could bring her 4 months old baby, is that appropriate?

this 1st cousin's wife is not coming to our wedding b/c we won't let her bring the baby, even though I offered MY bridal suite to her baby & a sitter!

If you offered babysitting services and the bridal suite then if I were in her place, I'd be VERY appreciative and take up that offer!

yea, so would I!

so of course, FH and I are the BAD GUYS for not allowing an INFANT to our no kids wedding.

Wow, you can't win any, can you?

I'll tell you what I did and what happened...

DH's first cousin, wanted to bring her 4 month old and 2 year old in lieu of the hubby. I specifically had my invites (in Spanish AND English) say 'Adult Reception'...plus word of mouth saying children were NOT invited since the wedding ended at 1am. What happened? She brought both kids anyway!
Luckily I must have 'missed' their table in my excitement and I never noticed...but yeah, people will do what they want.

I am not having kids at my wedding- there are just too many in my family. But a few of my first cousins will have new babys that will be under 1yr old- and I think I will allow them to bring the babies (if they ask). The way I look at it- I dont need a chair for them because they are too little and I do not have to worry about them running around the room causing all types of commotion. The parent will have to be holding the child or it will be in a stroller the whole time.

Try not to stress about it now. Let FH handle it, if anything. Trust me. That day you won't care...I didn't even notice until DH told me 'did you see how cute the baby was?'...and I said 'there was a baby at MY wedding?'

Re: For those of you who are not having kids at your weddings

We are having a Saturday night black tie wedding that starts at 7pm that will run until 1 am. IMO, it is not under any circumstances appropriate for a child that young to be a guest at our wedding. It is too late for them to be awake and too sophisticated of an event for them to comprehend.

My Matron of Honor has two children under 5 who will be in the BP. She recruited her in laws to come to the ceremony and take the kids home after the cocktail hour as did one of my BM's whose 2 children are also under 5. My nephew's Nanny will be taking HIM home after the cocktail hour as well.

If the parents of the children in the BP didn't make those ovations themselves, I would have found a way to have them taken home or to the hotel where the OOT guests are with a good baby sitter. The parents have expressed that they want to stay and have a good time and they can't do that if they are chasing after a 2 year old. My friends with kids can't even go out for ice cream at Friendly's without calling home 3 and 4 times in a night. The parents are also concerned that their children are well rested and had their naps. The only reason for possible bringing an infant is if the mother is still breast feeding, and even then, pump it mama. Keep the kid home!

No kids, means just that... no kids. you're not the bad person here, it's YOUR day!! You want it how you want it. Period!

I am not having kids at my wedding, and I think it was very nice of you to offer a sitter, and if she wasn't appreciative, screw her!

I think I am the only one having kids at my wedding 15 of them nonetheless - I love kids and have a kids table set up with chicken figers and fries for them - and I feel it is not a wedding unless there are kids running around in their little dresses and tuxs - but that is just me..and you have to do what you want so no kids is your policy then they have to follow it -

my wedding ends at 2AM! -

Re: For those of you who are not having kids at your weddings

Kids at a wedding at INFANTS at a wedding are different

I am having children at my wedding, my ring bearer will be 4 (my 1st cousin)

My 2nd cousin who i am very close to is a jr bridesmaid- and she has a sister and brother who will be 11 and 7

fh's brother will be 10-cant leave him out

he has two cousins 10 and 6

flower girl will be 6 and has a brother 8

and cant leave out the ONLY other set of cousins soooo 7 and 5 will be there

It wasnt my intention BUT it will still be an evening, formal affair, no infants will be there and they are old enough to understand what is going on

HOWEVER, this is YOUR WEDDING and YOU DONT WANT children/infants there! THAT is the way it is whether they like it or not...stick to your guns!

Yea, I just got my first request for kids, but she asked more if kids were invited at all even though I addressed it Mr. and Mrs. I'm a little concerned now that people will assume even though it doesn't say so.

I offered to help her find a licensed babysitter in the area although most parents wouldn't feel comfortable with a stranger watching their kids....

No babies..they don't belong at a wedding reception. How much fun would that be for everyone if someone had to mind the baby constantly?

Your offer of a babysitter in your bridal suite goes over and beyond the call. If they don't like that, then they can stew in their own juices until they are done!

Two words: Bite Me!

we are the bad guys though. my FMIL is giving us flack over this and there will plenty of attitudes at the wedding, I am sure of that.

all of our other guests who are parents have made other arrangements. but not her. and she even refused my GENEROUS offer of my bridal suite with a sitter. she could have gone up there a million times to check on the baby. what will she do when the baby goes into daycare, in only a few more weeks!

it is infuriating

Re: For those of you who are not having kids at your weddings

I already put the word out that there will be 'NO CHILDREN' at the wedding the day we booked the RH. FH has a large family (he's 4 of ten brothers and sisters) and his niece and nephew has kids under the age of 10.
'THEY ARE NOT INVITE'
These kid are out of control. If there parent could handle them, may I would have let them attend. (that's not going to happen)
So the only kids at the wedding will be two flowergirls, two ring bearer, and two ushers
ages 4-11.

The kids thing has been such a point of contention for us. My cousins all have kids, ranging from infants to 13 years old. A lot of FH's friends are new parents/parents-to-be, too. We decided on no kids, though. We really want to have a grown-up party without wild and/or crying children. We're going to hire a babysitter (maybe even two) if people want to bring their children (most of the proud parents are out-of-towners) and leave them at the hotel.
