For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

I was just wondering if you are mailing payments to your vendors on a weekly / monthly basis or are you just saving and paying when payments are due? I have been making payments monthly because if I don't the money will disappear to pay something else but I don't feel like I am getting anywhere with balances and the Wedding is 7 months away!

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

I have actually been paying on a schedule to the hall. It will help to make it not so much 3 days before the wedding, when the final balance is due.

Other than that, I have only left deposits with the other vendors.

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

kitty - I've been saving and saving and I just started paying my final balances this week.

I still have to pay for the caterer and my florist. My DJ wants his money the day of the affair and I'm giving my video guy his next payment next week.

You're probably better paying them little by little - I almost had an anxiety attack writing out all of these bills!

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

Fi and I have just put down deposits on the hall and the vendors that we have thus far.. The Hall has given us a break down of making payments when they are due; the final payment being due 2 weeks before the event.. The band has only asked for a minimal deposit and said they wanted to get paid the night of the event..

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

We put down the required deposits when due, and then saved the rest of the money at the end, which is now!

It does hurt to part with all that money at once..... LOL

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

We've been paying when payments are due (about every 4 months) but the last payment we gave double what was due and the next payment in November we'll probably give double or triple what is due. This way we hope not to have too overwhelming a balance due at the end...

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

The other main reason I'm not paying the vendors anything but their deposit is b/c what if they don't show up or something goes wrong?

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

We have been making payments at the hall as scheduled (which is ever 3 months) and the rest of our vendors all have deposits right now, but I figured that I would send some of our vendors a little more money (maybe a $100 - $200) before the balance is due so that my BM does not have to carry alot of money the day of the wedding. We put our money in a savings account that we add money to every payday and with extra money.

We have paid our deposits and had to pay the hall a 2nd deposit. But all of our 'big' money is due over the next few weeks.

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

We are saving and then paying it all when it is due. I was concerned in the beginning about saving it in an account that we could dip into, so we opened a CD that we can't withdraw from until one month before we need to start making payments. I am really glad that we had enough time to do it that way becuase now that it is starting to look like a nice sum, I wish I could 'borrow' from it, but I am glad that I can't!

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

We make monthly pymnts to the hall and make smaller pymnts to our other vendors whenever we can as to not have to pay ALL in the end.

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

Paid all the deposits and then saving until all the final payments are due ... which starts up soon for me.

FI and I opened up a joint savings account we only touch for the wedding. We paid most of the deposits from our regular accounts.

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

The best advise I got was to pay the down-payment & put the rest of the money in a savings account & add to that. Then when the bank adds a precentage you will make some money (ok it might just end up being $5.00 but heck it's something)

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

Thank you all for your responses, I think I am going to take a chunk out of my paycheck (bi-weekly) and send to reception hall only - that is the biggest item and then just pay vendors as they are due, because you are all right - they have to show to get paid. Thanks again! - Karen
