Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

My reception is being paid off in 5 payments...one deposit, 3 payments that were mapped out by the hall, and the final payment 2 weeks before the wedding. I love this way of doing to because they don't hit you with it at once, and it makes the wedding day so much easier.

The rest of the vendors have only gotten deposits, but they are substantial enough that the balances aren't over the top. It's really making life a bit more bearable! Although, I really wish the money fairy would pay us a visit because that final payment on the hall is what has me really nervous!

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

We paid all the standard deposits, and then paid everything else at the end. It's the way everyone wanted it. . . and our bank account was able to gain interest as we left it.

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

We'll pay big payments right before the wedding, while withholding some fees as well to make them show up.... A lot of our vendors want cash only on the day off and no cc so we're trying to decrease the cash of the wedding day.

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

If any of you ladies own a home or have parents that own a home, you can take out what is called a home equity. It works like a credit card except you get checks from the bank. You get a limit and you can use the money as you wish. You don't get billed unless you use it. It doesn't cost you to apply for it and currently is at 4.75%. Best of all, you don't have to tap into savings, investments, wedding gifts or charge up credit cards plus, you get a tax break at the end of the year just for getting married.

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

lizlen - that was way harsh. The vendor was posting useful information, not advertising. They have been very helpful in threads on the Newlywed board and no one over there has been yelling at them to get off. I'm sure if this vendor knew how sensitive you guys are, they wouldn't have posted.

I do now. I apologize!!!! I am new to the site and hope that I did not upset anyone. I will not post here anymore and honestly, I was only trying to help as I too know how difficult it is to pay for a wedding. Once again, I apologize.

we paid our deposits, the rest go into the bank & accumulate interest until they are due on the few days before.

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

We set up a separate wedding account that was not touched unless money was going in or money was coming out for a wedding expense. We paid our deposits as requested, and had all the money in the bank account collecting interest until final payments were needed. Be sure to budget for last minute expenses that seemed to crop up, like entertaining out-of-town family at the house 2 days before the wedding!

Re: For those of you who are paying for your own Wedding...

We are doing the same as DianaL...As soon as we got engaged (April 2001), we opened up a joint savings acct, and have yet to touch the money. We paid deposits out of pockets (not the savings acct), and have let the money accumulate interest (as small as it is ). I have to say though I am VERY proud of both of us...every 6 months since we've opened it, we have put in AT LEAST $5,000 at a time...so we are saving aggresively. Oh wait, I just remembered - we did touch the money. We decided to pay the honeymoon off using some of the money, and some out of pocket, so we have no worries now for the HM!
