For those of you who had string trios (or other musicians at your wedding mass)

I have always had my heart on having a string trio for my wedding ceremony and I found a friend of a friend who is willing to do it CHEAP, so I call my church and ask the priest if I can bring in the trio for the mass and he says 'sure, as long as they play church music' So I say OK....what exactly does that mean??

Has anyone run into any problems with their churches? Now I'm nervous.

It usually has to be something that falls into the realm of church music. Classical, or something very meaningful. Sometimes, a church will allow you to use something besides what is in repertoire. We used church musicians at our non-church wedding, and in their normal repertoire were classical and religious pieces, as well as 'Grow Old Along With Me' by John Lennon, and a few other more mainstream songs. Just ask what is in their normal repertoire, and if they make exceptions if it's acceptable.

I think what the priest means is that your trio needs to play 'Ave Maria' or 'Jesu Joy OF Mna's Desiring'.. or something in the traditional wedding genre of music.

They can't play 'Stairway to Heaven' or 'Born in the USA' or 'Cat Scratch Fever'. haha

Lots of couples look forward to the theme to 'Shaft' during their ceremony..

Although maybe that's more appropriate for the wedding night.

No Stairway.. but my future sister in law played 'Thank You' by Led Zep for their first dance song which I thought was a neat idea.
