For those of you who lost weight or are looking to lose weight
Original post by wilmetted
Lets post practical examples of things that worked for us so other brides can benefit. I hope there is not another thread like this. If there is, I am sorry.
I have lost about 17 pounds since July of last year. Most of it came off during the first three months. These things worked for me:
I cut out all Sodas and Juices (A lot of calories there) Water only. For the summer only I walked a mile every other day. I limited my fat intake to about 15 grams per day I counted calories. Stayed low around 1500
About once a week I cheated
I have not really exercised since last summer but I have been able to keep the weight off by eating right. I just started birth control so I am hoping I don't gain. This is my first time on the pill.
Anyone else try anything that worked?

I love this thread!!
I lost a TON of weight a few years ago by cutting out all white flour, rice, bread, sweets and running/lifting 6 days a week.
I've since gained half of that back, and am now doing WW. I also go to a nutritionist who says that you should really try and eat whole foods - nothing really processed, eat 5 small meals and take one day to have whatever you want.
Keep up the good work girls!!

Well, I tried the Special K diet and ate breakfast, lunch and dinner before it was even 1pm. So, that didn't work. I'm just trying not to order from the cafeteria here at work and bringing in Lean Cuisine's and chicken salad sandwiches I make at home with light mayo. Also, trying to cut back on the snacking.

I lost over 10 pounds in a few months....I follow Weight Watchers for the most part. I do it from memory because I can't find the books and I cheat alot too. I don't drink soda, eat ice cream, chocolate or potato chips anymore. And I walk as much as possible....at least 8 miles a week.

When the weather gets nice, me and my friends go to Long Beach and walk the entire length of the boardwalk and back which totals 5 miles I think? sometimes we even start from my moh's house in island park and walk to the boardwalk! thats another couple miles added on! great excersize and takes about 2 hours if we walk slowly

I cut out soda and replaced it with more water and green tea (both hot and iced).
I've been going to the gym about 4 times a week for years now, but I upped my cardio and sometimes instead of parking close to the store I'll park a little further.
I cut portions and switched over from whole milk to non-fat.
I NEVER deprive myself. Eating is all about portions, so you can eat what you want but it's about the balance. When you deprive yourself, you have a tendency to binge which is really unhealthy.

I pretty much stay away from most carbs except for the good carbs (whole grain stuff) and I try to stay away from sweets but do have a piece or 2 of choclate. I also eat tons of veggies for dinner and salads for lunch. I actuallty became a vegetarian about 4 months ago and so no more meat for me, but I eat alot of soy or tofu or my favorite edemames for the protein.
I also workout from home I do Taebo and have an eliptical and weight. I also love pilates and yoga.

I love Taebo and Pilates--they are great compliments to each other.

Re: For those of you who lost weight or are looking to lose weight
I'm along with the WW girls. Five years ago I went on WW and lost over 30 pounds. I went from a 10/12 to a size 4. I haven't gone in about 4 years but I try to stick to what I learned, and if I feel like I'm packing on the pounds I'll keep track of my calories (not really WW) and points.
- I try to eat throughout the day snacking on fruits, nuts, granola bars. I probably eat about 5 times a day.
- I drink a lot of water, but always have. Fortunately I don't really like soda.
- If I want juice, I buy the mini cartons (6 ounces I believe), if I want chocolate I'll have a mini Hershey bar. At the end of the day I still have a strong craving I allow myself to go crazy once in a while! Too much deprivation led to binge eating for me!
- If I want something bad - i.e. I had a scone for breakfast this morning - I'll keep the rest of my meals light. I'll probably have a salad for lunch and chicken for dinner.
- I'm very conscious of portion sizes now. I'll doggy bag half my meal if I go out, and I measure food at home.
- If I'm going out to eat, I don't go for the healthiest option, but I try to pick something that's healthier than something saturated in butter - although every now and then I splurge.
When I'm being really good my typical day is: - Honey Nut Cheerios for breakfast w/ a mini-orange juice - Almonds (about 20) - A turkey sandwich with a little mayo for lunch - A non-fat yogurt, granola bar or pretzels - Chicken, rice and veggies for dinner
