For those of you who lost weight or are looking to lose weight
Original post by wilmetted
Lets post practical examples of things that worked for us so other brides can benefit. I hope there is not another thread like this. If there is, I am sorry.
I have lost about 17 pounds since July of last year. Most of it came off during the first three months. These things worked for me:
I cut out all Sodas and Juices (A lot of calories there) Water only. For the summer only I walked a mile every other day. I limited my fat intake to about 15 grams per day I counted calories. Stayed low around 1500
About once a week I cheated
I have not really exercised since last summer but I have been able to keep the weight off by eating right. I just started birth control so I am hoping I don't gain. This is my first time on the pill.
Anyone else try anything that worked?

I've lost 15 pounds on WW but I'm upset because I need to lose about 30 more. I think I hit a plateau. I'm working out and not losing???

Nothing showed more results for me than when I started using weights in my workout....when I met my personal trainer, it turned everyting around. Once you build muscles, the fat completely melts off, and fast! You just have to stick with it. Cardio alone will not build muscle and you'll see results alot slower if you only do cardio.
Do not have unhealthy snacks in the house! If you must have them, portion control all the way! eeesh I should talk- this is my weakness!!
My FH is the best at teaching me willpower- it's not about can or can't - you simply just don't go for the foods that you know will give you trouble.
But for me, it's totally weight training/kickboxing, classes at the gym...and only low fat snacks in the house!
to support what tara said i found this on muscleandfitness.com: For every pound of lean muscle you forge, count on losing an extra 35–50 calories per day, or up to 1,500 calories a month or 18,000 calories per year while resting. That’s approximately 5 pounds of bodyfat you can eliminate at rest.
So go get those weights goin girls!! i noticed once i started weight training i was a able to 'cheat' on my diet a little more since i was burning more calories.

Re: For those of you who lost weight or are looking to lose weight
I've lost 18lbs since January 2007 doing Nutrisystem and increasing my running. I tried to run at least 10miles/week. I also started up on my longer runs (I did the Miami half-marathon with FH in January, a 5K a week ago, and I am doing the Mother's Day 10miler in Central Park). I have also added some more cardio-kick boxing and plan on starting back up on weight training soon. here now

I try to eat a few smaller things throughout the day - yogurt in the morning, banana as a snack, salad or sushi roll for lunch.... and I try to stick to Oprah's 'no food after 7:30pm' rule although it's hard on the 3 nights a week I work until 9.
Ive been horrible about this..last time i stuck to all eating before 730, cant remember! i get SOOO hungry bc I stay up til like 2am most nites. My stomach burns. I try to just fill up on water, but thats not fun b4 sleep, making all those trips, so i end up snacking at like 10:00-ish (when I get home from class) or really late, like 11-12. Its horrible! If I stay up late doing stuff, hopefully I burn some of the calories?? Im lying to myself.

You look awesome!
Cardio kickboxing is one of the best cardio workouts there is - I haven't been able to do it as often and I'm not seeing the results I normally do. It really tightens up your core and leg muscles! Not to mention upper body- and it's FUN!

Re: For those of you who lost weight or are looking to lose weight
Awesome thread! I need all the help I can get! Here are some of my tips:
- water, water, water! - Protein for breakfast, actually I try to get a little protein into each meal - eat an apple on the way home from work b/c when I get home I am ravenous and will eat anything I can while I'm getting dinner ready. An apple helps to give you the little hold over you need. - Non- fat Cappacino or latte in lieu of coffee...the milk will give you a fuller feeling plus you get calcium - Try to limit carbs to one meal per day and make it whole grains/whole wheat when you do eat them.
Keep the tips coming ladies! I have 19 lbs. to go!

Re: For those of you who lost weight or are looking to lose weight
a couple of years ago i lost 30 lbs in like 3 months..it is hard to stick to for the long haul but really worked....
I cut out...
all white carbohydrates
all white rice
all sweets ...no sugar at all unless it came from fruit....
I am currently trying to go back being strict on this...i have gained about 10 lbs back from the original 30 I lost when I started letting sweets back into my life....

Re: For those of you who lost weight or are looking to lose weight
ok, I know what works for me, it's just a matter of keeping up with it
exercise every other day (step aerobics with weights)
To reduce carbs, I eliminated soda completely (regular= carbs, diet = cr@p), and drank a lot of unsweeted and low sugar ice tea, I also had a rule where I either get a little bread at lunch OR I have a little rice or potato at dinner. Never both.
I eat a lot of salads with mixed veggies, a bit of ham, chicken, or egg, and under 150 cal of dressing.
most important: cook everything you eat, no prepackaged food, and very few restaurant trips!
I did this for 7 months and lost about 35 lbs!

Re: For those of you who lost weight or are looking to lose weight
What I do when I'm serious about losing weight, I work out 5-6 days a week HARD at least 45 mins a day with running and weights (also I go to Curves)... for food I eat only healthy low-cal stuff like oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, vegetables, chicken, tuna, lentil soup, and I never drink my calories... water and tea only!!!

Re: For those of you who lost weight or are looking to lose weight
I have been doing WW since January, but for a month before that I cut out all fast food (I was going several times a week) and started walking and lost around 7 pounds in a month just doing that.
I love WW. This is coming from someone who loves food, especially sweets. I never thought I would lose the weight that has slowly crept up on me since high school. I can still have anything I want on WW, I just now know what a real portion size is. I found out that you should only be having a cup of pasta!
Other things that have helped me be successful is making sure to eat breakfast everyday soon after waking up, drinking a lot of water throughout the day, eating something every 3-4 hours so I don't go overboard and splurge later on, and exercising. Every week I mix up my routine of walking 2-3 miles and use videos that I bought. I love Billy Blank's Boot Camp videos. These are part kickboxing and tae bo. I have noticed a huge difference in how I look after doing those workouts. I also do a yoga video and one with an exercise ball where you use free weights as well. I think it's important to mix things up.

Re: For those of you who lost weight or are looking to lose weight
I have kept 30 pounds off for the last 3 years.. I swear by high fiber food, lots of water,\\don't buy things that you know you dont' have control over, cut out all sugar sodas, only drink caffine free, allow yourself to have the things you want once in a while. Exercise at least twice a week.. even if its walking around the block.. More importanlty THE SLOWER IT COMES OFF THE LONGER IT WILL STAY OFF! I took me a year to loose the 30 but it has stayed off for almost 4 yrs now. You can't expect to loose 30 pounds in amonth a think you will keep it off.. Its unrealistic and you don't learn how to eat better. Denying yourself what you want or need only makes things worse.. Weight Watchers teaches you how to have what you want just the quanity is lower.. it doesn't matter if you eat after 3pm or youcut out carbs.. thats bad for you and can acutally put your body into shock.. You just have to learn how to make better decisions..
