I lost my dad a little less than a year ago and now I find myself being asked, 'who is walking you down the aisle?' (nice right?)
Anyway, I'm thinking mom, but who is giving you away?

Re: For those of you whom are fatherless...
Sorry to hear that. I lost my father as well, and my brother will be walking me down the aisle. I have been to weddings where a mom has or cousin has walked the bride down also. You can choose whoever you feel comfortable with . xoxo

I am so sorry for your loss. And I know how insensitive people can be. Usually they don't mean to be, but it will happen again and again. I lost my father exactly 11 months before my wedding. While nobody's experience is the same, I do know the unusal pain of planning a wedding while grieving. If you ever need someone to talk to, send me a FM.
To answer your question, my mom walked me down the aisle. In Jewish weddings, typically both parents walk the bride down. I was planning on having both my parents walk me down, so having my mom was a no-brainer.
My brother wanted to walk down with me and my mom, but I didn't want that -- he isn't my dad, as much as I love him. He was a GM.

My mom. She is also dancing with me
you will go through a lot of emotions during this time (I lost my dad 4 years ago so I know)....just try to do what you feel you can to remember he is with you that day. Honor him as much as you want

I'm having my mom walk me down the aisle. I can't decide if I want my brother to walk with us. My FH will not do a mother/son dance because he doesn't want me to feel bad.

Re: For those of you whom are fatherless...
I don't really want to do any of those traditions, mother/son dance, and obvi I dont have my side so...but any of them, bo-k toss, garter, etc.
My problem with the sibling thing is, I have 2 brothers, and I can't really pick between them (even though i'm much closer with one than the other). That will just cause drama, and then the thought of walking by myself terrifies me!
So I guess mom it is...
But it is nice to know that there are others in my shoes, as unfortunate as they are...
I also was considering an uncle, who is kind of like our family figurehead, but I just don't feel close to him, so i'm weird about that too.

Re: For those of you whom are fatherless...
My mom has been divorced from my dad for about 15 years now. It was tough growing up with him, he wasn't the kind of dad you expect to have. But, I am sorry for your loss.
I just tell people my mom will wak me down and I am proud of it. She has worked so hard and struggled to keep us from dropping into the 'red' and being out on the streets. She deserves that honor.

I think walking down the aisle on your own is really cool.....that way nobody seems like a dad replacement. I still remember when Giualiani walked the bride down the aisle after 9/11.

Sorry to hear that. My father passed away as well. My mother's 2 brothers are going to give me away. I don't know how we're all going to fit down the aisle with my ballgown but we'll make it work!

Re: For those of you whom are fatherless...
My father is deceased it was 5yrs Sept 9.
My sister had a child at 18 yrs old...the son my Dad never had. He is now 19 & I know my Dad would want nobody else. I also don't think I would be able to walk down alone......so he will be my escort.

my mom
i had also considered my brother, but he's in the bridal party. my uncle was another option, but i just decided that it should really be my mom. she raised me, so she has the right to give me away to my husband.
