I lost my dad a little less than a year ago and now I find myself being asked, 'who is walking you down the aisle?' (nice right?)
Anyway, I'm thinking mom, but who is giving you away?

Re: For those of you whom are fatherless...
I am sooo sorry for you loss!! I lost my Father in 2005, and I was totally Daddy's little girl. I was in a biiig delima about who was going to walk me down... first I wanted my Mom since she was the next to raise me. But, then I was convinced to have my Brother walk me down. He's 5 years older then me. You can really do whatever YOU feel comfortable with. Your mom, yourself, a close relative... its your day.

So sorry to hear that.... My uncle (my dad's brother) walked me down the aisle. My mother wasn't an option for me and I don't have brothers....my sister walked herself down which is also an option if you are comfortable. There are no rules anymore, it's your wedding and you should do what you feel comfortable with.

Although I haven't lost my dad, I lost my mom. My brother got married last year and didnt dance with anyone. My SIL danced with her dad but my brother didnt dance at all. I wanted him to dance with my grandma, but he though it would be too emotional, so he didnt.

My Grandfather is walking me down. He was always more of a father to me then my own.
I did think having my mom do it but she said no and that it should be my Grandfather.

My dad also passed away 4 years ago unexpectingly and when it came down to who was walking me down I choose my dad's best friend. He has been there for my family through the last few hard years.

i have a friend whose mother walked her down the aisle. It was sweet. She also shared a special dance with her at the reception.

I don't really want to do any of those traditions, mother/son dance, and obvi I dont have my side so...but any of them, bo-k toss, garter, etc.
My problem with the sibling thing is, I have 2 brothers, and I can't really pick between them (even though i'm much closer with one than the other). That will just cause drama, and then the thought of walking by myself terrifies me!
So I guess mom it is...
But it is nice to know that there are others in my shoes, as unfortunate as they are...
I also was considering an uncle, who is kind of like our family figurehead, but I just don't feel close to him, so i'm weird about that too.
Another option could be a brother on each side...

By the time I'm married my dad will be gone 13 years... My mom and my uncle (his brother) will walk me down the aisle. I'm not sure about the special dance yet...

my mom is walking me down the aisle. i planned on having both of my parents anyway. so this just makes sense. i have a cousin that offered, but it just wouldn't feel the same.
i have a friend that had her uncle walk her down. it's all about what you feel comfortable with. i'm sorry for your loss. as much as it S U C KS, you are not alone in this.

Re: For those of you whom are fatherless...
I'm still undecided....either alone or my mom...we're not exactly seeing eye-to-eye (I hate her looser boyfiend & he won't be invited...) so this is my dilemma. Who knows...maybe she won't even come because he's not invited. SOrry for the rant..

Re: For those of you whom are fatherless...
I am having my brother who I am so close to. He's a big softie and knows how devastated I am that my Dad won't be there. It's exactly who I need for a moment like that. I'm going to have my other brother walk my Mom down the aisle prior to the ceremony so he doesn't feel left out. So sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss .... My son who will be 11 at the time is walking me down the isle .... I have the best poem for you to put on your programs if you want it FM me !

i will be walking down the aisle alone.
I will be doing the same. If my brother is well enough then he will walk me, but I am prepared to walk by myself.
