Re: For those on Salary Pay......

yep!

Which is why I rarely stay past 5pm. Obviously, if I'm on deadline, I will stay and do what needs to be done, but for the most part, I'm here at 8am and I work until 5pm.

Re: For those on Salary Pay......

yes, and unfortunately I get paid for a 35 hour work week (since they don't pay for lunch hour). So if i worked 40 hr/w I'd be making about 4000 more a year.

Re: For those on Salary Pay......

hmmm...

for those of you who are religiously sticking to your 8 am to 5 pm workday:

Exempt (if you are exempt) employees should receive their full salary every pay period. The salary amount should never be reduced because of variations in the quality or quantity of work performed or generally for absences of less than a full day.

Basically, what this means is that you work until the job is done. That could mean that on Monday and Tuesday you work until 7 pm. BUT, maybe on Wednesday you finish at 1 and decide to go home. You should still receive your same pay for the week...

Re: For those on Salary Pay......

I NEVER get to go home early. Even days before a holiday. Bunch of tightwads here. (ok, maybe a couple times, but only like a half hour early. Big whoop!)

Being exempt/salaried does not give most people the freedom to set their own hours.

I am expected to be here for certain hours every day and get my job done regardless.

As a perk when I need to leave early I won't get docked but it's not like I can leave when ever I feel like leaving on a regular basis.

But, that's not really a perk. If you are a true exempt employee, your company is not allowed to dock you for leaving early.

As an example, if you leave work right now because you are ill, if you are a true exempt employee, your company is not permitted to dock your pay.

Ok, perk is the wrong word and I don't get docked or charged personal time when I leave early. While I am a true exempt employee I am expected to work a regular work week.

Re: For those on Salary Pay......

I am expected to be here for at least 40 hours for the week. If I leave early one day, I need to make it up. As long as I work 80 hours in a pay period there are no problems.

I have a wonderful boss who lets us do pretty much what we want. Then again, she knows she has a good team who doesn't take advantage either.

Re: For those on Salary Pay......

Actually, my pay stub tells me how many $ per hour I am making and I am pleased with the amount. I was making $10K less last year. BTW, I am non-exempt! Yippeee!!! :)

Re: For those on Salary Pay......

On your paycheck if your pay is actually listed in hours, you are considered non-exempt (eligible for OT). If not, you are exempt from OT. Just a little tidbit.

I'm sorry to be a nudge about the whole exempt/non-exempt issue.

It's just that I specialize in all of this for a living.

If it's set up that way on your paycheck, that is simply because the person doing the payroll at your company requested that it be that way. It does not actually make you exempt or nonexempt.

What you actually DO at work and how much of your time is spent doing specific activities determines whether or not you are exempt. If your company does not analyze WHAT you are doing in order to determine your exempt/nonexempt statues, then the company is not abiding regulations outlined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Again, I know I am being annoying about all of this.

It's just that I work SO HARD to educate business owners on this so that the employees do not get mistreated or taken advantage of. So, I feel very strongly about it all...
