For those that hate Olive Garden

I see in the few posts we have about bad eats that Olive Garden is always mentioned. Just wondering, what is soo horrible about it? If you could change one thing there to make it better what would it be?

I like their salads and bread. That's it.

What I don’t like about it.. The sauces are runny not really hearty. Those sauces that are supposed to be creamy and smooth are tangy and off. The pasta is almost always over cooked and chewy. Mostly they over spice things to make up for bland tasting meats (chicken, etc) and it’s an over kill. I don’t think they actually marinate anything.

Frankly I feel like most of their food is warmed up and not really cooked to order.

I still eat there from time to time, but can’t ever just find anything I want to eat on the menu. The closest I get is the all you an eat pasta. I don’t need ‘all you can eat’ I just want penne al a vodka. Jim says their lasagna is usually over cooked and way too rubbery.

We do try. I didn’t list it as my least favorite, Fridays and Applebee’s get that honor, but Olive Garden CAN be so much better (used to love to go) but here in NY and LI I’m not impressed.

Their selection is limited, food mediocre at best and overpriced for the quality. Service is normally that of an average diner and cleanliness seems to always be an issue.

I actually don't think its horrible either... we don't have one closeby so we hardly ever go, but I've had it a few times and actually ENJOYED it..

As I said in that other thread, I think it often depends on the location when it comes to 'chain' restaurants... I recall going to an Olive Garden in Cali and thought it was terrific.. around LI, my experience hasn't been quite as good

I don't usually get any dishes with 'gravy' when I eat out, because I'm spoiled with my Mom's sauce and prefer homemade. But I've had other things at Olive Garden and thought they were good

I'm 100% Italian , so it really cannot be THAT bad , can it?

I can't tolerate their sauce. If I ever go, I get something alfredo.

I dont think it is horrible, but you have to stay away from the seafood. Everytime I got it, there would be sand in the clams or the mussel shells would be broken and I would bite into the piece.

There are soooooooo many Italian restaurants that are not a chain, I just see no reason to try it.

Just so you all know, my hubby works for corporate and thought it might be good for him to pass on some of the opinions here.

I agree...and it's not like it's any cheaper than anywhere else.

I've only been once or twice.

I've eaten at the one in the city, near 14th street (i think) and it was excellent...the food, the salad, and the breadsticks...all yummy!!

that sso funny that last night was the first time i was ever there. the salad is good i actually was scared to get the pastas with the sauces there didnt know how they would taste so i ended up getting the grilled chix with steak and grilled vegtables. it wasnt bad. and i must say the service was really really good.

I don't hate the olive Garden, it just isn't my favorite. The service at the one on 20-something street in the city has been good the few times I have been there. I like their soup, salad and breadsticks, but not much else. I think it's really over priced, for the quality. I love Baci (in Bay Ridge, near my apt), and spend just a little more there.

God... lets see.

All they do is microwave their frozen food... nothing is cooked fresh.

And on top of it all... more than half the time I eat there the food never comes out HOT. I always get it either lukewarm or cold.

Olive Garden *****.

The food...its just horrible..they claim that their menu is from chefsin Tuscany...ha
I've been to Tuscany...trust me ...the food is no where near what they serve there...maybe its because I'm Italian, I grew on Italian food...its hard for me to go into any Italian restaurant and have the food live up to 'home cooked Italian'...

Usually it comes down to the food and people either love it or hate it. Everybody seems to like the breadsticks, but that's about it.

Well for one...the two times I've gone in (same place)--it felt very dirty to me

And Two, the sauce....Yucky Poo Poo--I cant eat sauce that tastes processed like that....

But even if they did improve, I'm not sure I'd go back--once a bad seed sticks in my head, its hard to get it out.......
