For those who aren't living with FH

Original post by Jen2525

When are you going to start looking for a place together? After or before the wedding? Will you be buying something or renting first? Also are you staying on long island? I was just wondering because it seems like so much to plan for a wedding and a house all in one shot........

we are planning to look first thing beginning of next year...january 2 we will be house hunting!!!

we hope to find/close on a house by april sometime so we have time to move stuff in and get stuff settled before the wedding, that way when we get 'home' from the honeymoon, we'll be coming HOME

he will live in it for that first month and ill move in when we're married

I'm trying to convince FH that I should get to live there alone first if we find something sooner before we're married since my commute is so bad from SI to the city lol

the commute is the main reason we started looking soooo long ago. i have like a 70-90 minute drive each way. UGH.

Uhhh tell me about it I hate the buses to and from SI. I am counting down the days until I can move to LI and have a 40 min train ride to the city. I work right in Times Square so I'm real close to Penn, it will be glorious lol.

FH and i just moved in together 6 mo ago. im so glad he did so we can do a test run before the marriage.

after the wedding we will eventually be moving out of my rental into his parents' rent stabilized apt. (they are planning on moving back to DR in a year or so). this way it will be easier to save up for a down payment to own something.

We're moving in together in June/July this year. Probably going to be renting until after the wedding. Then, we'll make the final decision if we are moving to CT or NJ. Depends on where I go back to school for my PhD. At that time, we'll be looking for houses.

Hopefully we will be moving into a 2 family home before the wedding. If not we will rent and buy a home after our lease is up. We will be staying in Brooklyn or moving to Queens.

I look at MLSLI.com for now, to see what's out there, we'll be seriously looking over the summer, and hopefully we'll be moved in by January of 2010. We have one plan, our bank accounts have another... haha.

I really want to buy a house...but I feel like we'll never have the money for a house and a wedding!

The inlaws are hooking us up with a sweet apartment in one of their houses!! Since we are paying for the wedding, we can't buy a house too. Maybe in 3 years. Hopefully things in Brooklyn will be getting better so that we can buy a house in Dyker or B-Hurst!!!

We are going to start looking for a place to live when I finish up school in May. We would really like to own right away if we can but it's alot to save for a wedding and to save for a place.

we currently live together but its the apartment downstairs from my parents. so we will be looking for an apartment once i start working full time. we will be staying in brooklyn bay ridge/dyker heights.

our goal will be to purchase my parents house in dyker heights when they finally decide to move.
