Its supposed to be good for up to 5 years and once you take it out, you'll still be able to have kids. Im so tired of taking a pill everyday and would like to try something new. But Im worried it hasnt been out long enough. What do you girls think?

I dont take BC and never will. But I would never trust a pill that delays your period for months , that cannot be healthy for you at all.

I dont like those pills either. This is more of an intrauterine device where it stops you from getting pregnant and it works for 5 years. I think you still get a period.

I am on birth control & LOVE it.... But i agree with your thought. Women are SUPPOSED to have a period to get things out of your body....so by not having one - i cannot imagine that's safe....
I am not a doctor - i only play one on TV...(sorry - i'm in a weird mood today - sleep deprivation has done odd things to my personality).

Agreed 100%. I can't take bc I have bad effects from it and I would not trust anything that messes with the natural ways of your body JMO

please be careful and maybe wait until more researchhas been done on it...i took the shot that came out a few years ago and it was out for a little while so not like it was brand new and it was the worst experience ever and bc of that i am afraid to go on ANY BC now. Oh yeah they dont even use depo anymore for BC they use it for other things

Good ol protection is the way to go . There is also that ring that you stick in there. YUKKY!!!!! to be in there for days

I turn psycho on the pill and get very physically sick as well. My gyno told me that there are many girls out there that just can't take it and that made me feel better

I agree, trying something thats new makes me nervous. If it doesn't work it's not like an antibiotic or something....you get pregnant and that would be a huge surprise! I say just hang in there with the pill that's been around for years!

i'm too wary of things like that --- i don't think its natural to delay your period for so long....i know its sux and is an inconvenience -- but that is life....your body's uterine lining is SUPPOSED to shed every month---just how nature is.
i would wait awhile before considering trying something like that. who knows what long term effects it might have!

I guess youre all right. Im always looking for something new since I dont plan on having kids for a while. But it would suck if I changed my mind and decided I wanted a big family, but I messed up my insides.

I have the Mirena & it works. But you don't get a period most of the time. I haven't had one in like 5 months. It sits in your uterus so your lining doesn't grown & thicken, hence, no shedding.
BUT I THINK (don't quote me) that you are not supposed to get the Mirena if you haven't had children yet. (DH & I have a baby so my doctor suggested it.)
IUDs have been around for years and they are safe. Its nothing new. The Mirena just has a big marketing push behind it.

Oh really?! Cause I just saw the commercial yesterday. I wasnt sure if its for people who havent had kids yet. On the website it says if youre in a long term mongamous relationship.

it is the best birth control I have ever been on. You leave it for 3 weeks and dont have to think about it and the week you get your period you take it out. You don't ever feel it , and I personally never got any side effects!!
I highly recommend this to anyone!

my bc is $35 a month now WITH insurance!! so i am hoping that will be less! i am glad that you like it, i dont know many people who use it
