For those who arent ready for kids or wont be for a while...

Original post by Butterfly123

Would you try this new birth control:

Mirena

Its supposed to be good for up to 5 years and once you take it out, you'll still be able to have kids. Im so tired of taking a pill everyday and would like to try something new. But Im worried it hasnt been out long enough. What do you girls think?

I definitely have to start bc soon....but I don't think I'd ever use an IUD....as safe as they say it is, something about it doesn't sit right with me.....meanwhile, I'm more than willing to look into the bc that lets me skip my period for months at a time.

they usually suggest te 5 year ones for people that already have children, so i think you would have to talk to your gyno about that...theres also nuvaring that i heard is pretty good

does anyone know how to delay my period with BC pills?

You can take your next dose of birth control when you were suppose to stop. Like let's say your last pill is today and then tomorrow you start your fake pills. Well instead of taking the fake one's, start a new pack and this will delay it for a month. My GYN said its safe and no harm is done. people do it for reason like going on vacation and weddings and things like that. Not for longtime usage though.

I went on a cruise and I skipped my period by taking the next pack and it worked great. I will do this for my wedding if it turns out that I am scheduled to get my period. I just wanted to let everyone know that it is perfectly safe to skip your period! There has been studies done on it and everything, I'll try to find some info I know I've read it on cnn.com before and stuff though.

When you skip your period have you ever had heavy spotting or bleeding? Are you likely to be more bloated?

I'm actually concerned about this as well.. it looks like I'll definetly have my period for during the wedding and HM..

I have never taken any BC or any form contraceptives before and I'm not sure what to do but I do want to delay it for my wedding and HM..

any advice will be helpful!! i'm worried about side effects, mood swings, weight gain.. the whole nine.. the only issue when I do get my period is severe cramps.. I have the worst cramps..but I mean I've just learned to deal w/ it..

My doc said that people who have not had babies CAN get the Mirena IUD. It just might hurt a bit more. I am seriously considering it or another type of IUD. They have been around for quite a long time. My only concern with it is infertility, which is a HUGE concern actually. I am just sick of taking a pill everyday and of paying all the $$$ for it.

Good ol protection is the way to go . There is also that ring that you stick in there. YUKKY!!!!! to be in there for days

I am actually on the nuvaring and it isnt 'yucky' lol

it is the best birth control I have ever been on. You leave it for 3 weeks and dont have to think about it and the week you get your period you take it out. You don't ever feel it , and I personally never got any side effects!!

I highly recommend this to anyone!

i agree. only thing i've taken with no side effects and it's so great to not take a pill every day!

I've actually heard that the most effective form of BC is the 'pull out' method.

Does your name happen to be 'Mom'?

By the way, when I went away to college, my advice from Mommy Dearest was, 'Pull and Pray doesn't work!'

Thanks Mom!

When I have skipped my period I have not had any weird side effects, just skipped it and then resumed the next month. I have done this a couple of times. I will DEF do it for my wedding if it looks like I'm going to get my period. I don't know if you can do this with the nuvaring, my suggestion is talk to your gyn, they will know if you can just put another ring in the week you are supposed to leave it out, I'm assuming it would probably work like the pill but check just to be on the safe side!!!

I dont take BC and never will. But I would never trust a pill that delays your period for months , that cannot be healthy for you at all.

I currently take Seasonale and only get my period every 3 months. It is the best ever. Not only are they fewer, but less severe. I trust my doctor and the numerous studies that have shown that you may not need to get your period at all. So far, I have no complaints!

No More Periods!
