?? For Those who Commute from LI to Wall St/Downtown Area

I just moved to Massapequa Park on Wed and today was my first day commuting to work (on Wall St.).
My question is for you ladies who commute from LI south shore to downtown NYC area - is it easier and/or quicker to take LIRR to Flatbush and then take the subway or to go to Penn and take the subway down?
I went the Flatbush way this morning and it was pretty convenient but looking at the schedule times, trains seem to get to Penn quicker, but is the subway ride longer?

Yes... FH goes downtown to wall street and he goes to Flatbush first, then takes the 4 (i think) it really is quicker!!!

I had never gone that way before (being that I lived in Queens before) and I was surprised at how close the subway was to the LIRR, it's like a little penn station! I took the 2 right to Wall, it's right in front of my building.

Thanks for the feedback, I guess I'll keep going to flatbush???
Anyone else do this commute?

I need to learn to sleep on the train!!

I know people who go into Penn in the morning and go to Flatbush in the evening...they all said it was the fast and convenient.

So is it faster to go to Penn in the morning and Flatbush in the evening? I'm confused!

I hate commuting!!

the LIRR to Brooklyn is longer in time, meaning more stops, meaning less smooth ride ( I had being on a local train!! ) If you take the 2 or 3 train to Wall street, its the same # of stops on the Subway whether from Brooklyn or from Penn, but to me the Brooklyn Subway was so much more crowded than going to Penn. SOmetimes I would have to let 2 trains pass before anyone could get on.

Personally, I think going to Penn is better by the is JMO!!

I didn't have a problem with getting a seat on the train or subway this morning - I always go to work early to avoid the craziness.
Penn station to me is like hell. But if it really is quicker, I'll go that way.

Anyone else???

when I worked downtown...I would be at work by 8am and the subways in Brooklyn to me were always crowded!!

How're the express trains from Mass. to Penn? Are they totally packed? I know there's one or two in the moring and evening rush hours.

I used to commute from Sayville, and worked across from the 4 Wall Street stop.

For me, Flatbush was the most convenient, but that was because I wanted the 4 or 5, and neither are at Penn.

I used to take the 6:16 or the 6:30 or the 6:45 into Penn everyday from Massapequa and they are all 'express'. Express is defined in different ways. These trains all make like 3 stops then right into Penn...to me that is express...whereas the Brooklyn trains make all stops to Rockville Center then Jamaica then the Brooklyn stops.

Not all Flatbush trains stop in Jamaica.

Maybe on some lines but on the Babylon line they all do.

It really depends on your schedule. I use to commute from Massapequa also and going from Flatbush is convienent in a pinch but I found it faster to go to penn and take the subway from there. I jumped on an express train and was in the city in 45 minutes and then 20 minutes by subway. If you take the train to Flatbush it is a local and takes close to an hour. So basically the time is a wash it's just depends on what time you need to get to work. The flatbush trains weren't at good times for me.

They're very flexible here so I don't have a specific time that i need to be at work but I like going on earlier so I can leave earlier.
It does seem that the trains are quicker to Penn but isn't it a longer subway ride from Penn to Wall? Does it work out to be pretty much the same anyway?
It did seem like the train made a million stops this morning.....

Definetly go to Flatbush Ave. You are the first stop in Manhattan on subway. No pushing at Penn, standing, missing trains becasue they are too full, etc!!!!
