if you had 2 full days to spend in Spain, where would you go?
We are trying to figure out this trip to Europe in the summer for FH's cousin's wedding. We are definitely doing London and the Ireland but befroe we get to London we would like to go somewhere else for 2 days and then (if possible) take the train into London.
We thought about Italy but the train ride would be way too long, so that's out.
France is definitely still an option but FSIL was thinking of doing Spain, which I am totally down for as well.
So, now the issue lies of where in Spain do we go? I was thinking either Barcelona but if anyone has any other suggestions that would be awesome! Also, not sure of the train situation with Spain either (if it's the same deal as Italy than we are just going to do France)
THANKS!

Re: For those who have been to Spain!
how long was the train ride? See we might run into the same problem that we did with Italy. Since we only have time for 2 days in another location we don't want to waste one whole day on a train just to get to London.

Re: For those who have been to Spain!
barcelona was wonderful! so was valencia. toledo was my favorite spot, but it's not a big city - it was really quaint, and the houses are built into the side of the mountains- so cool!
i definitely agree- don't do madrid, barcelona and valencia are so much nicer!!

Spain is nice but I think it might be too far. We flew from Italy to London when I was in Europe before.
How about Scotland, it's on the same mainland as London.

Also Amsterdam, Netherlands or Belgium is just across the water from England...
I went to France and didn't like it except for South France because we were on the Mediterranean.

I totally disagree.
I hated Barcelona and loved Madrid.
Barcelona is too touristy, and if you speak Spanish, people in Barcelona will pretend like they don't understand you because you're not speaking Catalan, but they understand you! I found most people in Barcelona to be very rude.
Madrid, however, is also full of great architecture, museums, parks, etc. There is a ton of things to do at night also.
This is just my opinion - most people love Barcelona, but I hated it. Plus, I had my 50lb suitcase to lug through the cobblestone streets of Barcelona = not fun!
Also, I didn't take the train, I took the bus from Madrid to Barcelona and it was LONGGGGGGGG but CHEAP (like 18 euros each way? as opposed to the train which was like 90 euros each way. but definitely lost a lot of time doing it that way - the bus took I think 8ish hours.
FM me with any specific questions you have.

LOVE Barcelona. But why take the train? Do RyanAir. Cheaper and faster

i've been to Sevilla and Malaga also. Malaga is more of a beach town so it really depends on what you want.

we're trying to avoid flights for this particular leg of the trip. We are already going to be taking one to Ireland from England. Plus I think it would be nice to take the train and see the scenary as we go past.
Thanks for the other suggestions. I'll bring up Amesterdam and Belgium to them and see what they think

Re: For those who have been to Spain!
I can't comment on Barcelona but when I was an exchange student I loved Madrid. However my favorite places while traveling through Spain were Sevilla and Granada. I don't think you can go wrong in Spain it just depends on what you are intrested in. I would check out some traveling sites to see what which city has to offer and narrow it down that way.
