For those with a 2 year engagment...

I know we have discussed this before, but I am so furious! I got engaged last year and we booked the hall for 2 years from when we got engaged. The wedding is in 2004, I was so happy to finally say , there is one year left. Now I get,' 1 more year to go, why so long?!' It just ****es me off to no end.Is anyone else having this situation? (It is mostly the patients in my office). I am at the point where I want to get a tee shirt that says' 1 more year do not ask anymore questiosn why!!!' It is none of there business why , etc. Duh- weddings are expensive etc. Each situation is different.

Someone said to me 'so soon.'
Soon! We were together for 4 years and engaged for 10 months before we got married.
Everyone always has a comment.

then have a bridal party pool party in the summer..

Next year will be my shower and then wedding...

Whomever doesn't like it knows where to go..

Why should you answer to anyone?

I love that we have time. We got engaged Sept 13 2002 and the wedding is sept 18, 2004.

I feel like i have so much time, can take a break for a month of anything wedding planning if i want, can do research, save, still enjoy going out (we go out to diner at least once a week) and just have fun.

People will say something wether it is too soon or too far away. My opinion is what is the rush....being engaged is fun and I want to enjoy it....besides you will be spending the rest of your life as husband and wife....why rush it and go crazy.

People never miss an opportunity to say something stupid. People said that to me plenty but seriously, whats the rush? Don't stress it.

I get that all the time. By the time we get married, we will be engaged over 2 1/2 years. I have been done with everything since last April and I get why next year. Everyone tells me, I thought you were getting married this year. I just wish that everyone would understand that I want to enjoy my engagement and like Chippa, we get to go to eat, movies, etc. and not have to worry about certain things.

FH and I were engaged August of 2001, will be married this August 30th. I have loved the two year engagement, as I am a procrastinator and it has given me time to plan with minimal stress. I got the vendors I wanted without worrying they would not be available and was able to save. Eventually we would laugh about the comments we would get. My favorite is, 'arent you married already?' um...no. we are not. And now we dont have to invite you since you obviously thought you missed the wedding anyway

When I wanted to be engaged, all I heard was, 'Why, you are so young?'.

When I got engaged, 'Why such a long engagement...?'

People just like to be annoying...

Its ok when we got engaged my parents though 3 or 4 years - yeah you are so young NO ONE gets married before 30 these days (I'm 27) and never mind the fact about 3/4's of my hs class is already married and many have kids.

Now they are into it and a year seems so far to them -

I've been engaged since 12/00. I think I'm the longest here! In the beginning it was rough with the questions, and I felt like I had to make excuses, but in the long run, I'm really glad we made the decision. We took our time with the planning, did everything the way we wanted and never got stressed. I can't believe it's finally only MONTHS away!!!

Don't let it bother you. These people are probably just trying to make conversation.

If it's someone I barely kow, I always say that the reception hall that we chose is very popular, and we booked the first available date. Then I quickly change the topic. It's so not true, but who cares? Usually that shuts them up, and gets them thinking, hmm...I wonder which reception hall she chose. (only one person bothered to ask) I used to say, well it takes a while to save up the money, and then they'd say, well aren't your parents paying, oh, why not? Why is it their business?

FH and I got engaged on X-mas Eve this past year and set our wedding date for Dec 3, 2004. It is going to be a looonnnggg 2 yrs. We both wish it was this year coming up, because we are so excited to get our lives started together, but finacially at this point, we cant swing it. I always dreamed of an X-mas Theme wedding, so had no choose, but to do it in December. What a wait, I hate it, FH hates it, but we are managing. We booked our reception site and church only at this point. I understand you on the issue of everyone at work asking 'so how are the wedding plans coming, you have so much time, did you get a dress, did you do this???' I hear it all the time, but just respond... Still early, we have time, will soon. Our hopes that we have so much time to save $$, is that we can actually have some money, including the gifts we get on our wedding day to put a down payment on a house. We refuse to rent.

I thought we would save more money by waiting longer but that didn't happen. We really wanted Milleridge and we couldn't guarantee a large # so we had to doit in one of the off-season months. But now my wedding is in 10 days and I actuallywish I had a few more weeks to get ready.

Re: For those with a 2 year engagment...

we get this all the time.... we got engaged 3/30/02 and will be getting married on 5/22/04. at first, when we told people we were going to get married in sept of 03, some, including fmil, said that she was surprised we would rush and get married so soon. then, after setting the date, she asked us if everything was ok and that if we were waiting to figure out if this is what we really wanted! whatever.... i think a 2+ year engagement allows you to spend time with your fiance without constantly doing wedding stuff. in addition, the wedding planning is so much more relaxed than if you tried to rush it. i went photographer shopping this past weekend and my date was available at all of the studios we visited with. how great is that?!? so i say yay to the 2+ year engagement!!! and nay to all the people who harrass us about it!

I just had someone say to me-- geez you have been engaged for forever!! UGH! Then I saw a former student that I have not seen since last year and he said to me Oh you still aren't married. I know the feeling. But just about 4 months from now-- they will stop that and start asking so when are you going to have a baby! With all of you as my witness I will freak on the first one that says that and adds-- you are not getting any younger you know!!!--lol

By the time May comes my wedding was 1 yr & 8 months away from my engagement & I used to get the same thing. 'You got your dress already'? and 'You got plenty of time' well you know what? I have 2 months left & I am so glad I did everything early.
Ignore them, your time will fly by!
