I know we have discussed this before, but I am so furious! I got engaged last year and we booked the hall for 2 years from when we got engaged. The wedding is in 2004, I was so happy to finally say , there is one year left. Now I get,' 1 more year to go, why so long?!' It just ****es me off to no end.Is anyone else having this situation? (It is mostly the patients in my office). I am at the point where I want to get a tee shirt that says' 1 more year do not ask anymore questiosn why!!!' It is none of there business why , etc. Duh- weddings are expensive etc. Each situation is different.

People said that to us at first too, and our engagement is only a year and a half. But with moving cross country, it just makes sense. People still say, 'wait...May of NEXT year???'

Re: For those with a 2 year engagment...
We got engaged in August of 2002, and we are getting married in July of 2004. I have heard the same comments from people as the rest of you but as soon as I mention that I am not graduating college until May 2003, they change thier opinion. (Like I need a good excuse to have a 2 year engagement). I would have LOVED to get married this summer after graduation, but I know that I am doing the right thing, although it is very difficult. My FH lives in PA, and I am here on LI, and right now I dont get to see too much of him lately. We could not afford to have the wedding we wanted this year, so next year it is.

I have also experienced many comments about our long engagement. Everybody has their reasons, and many people have something to say no matter what

By the time we get married, the engagment will be 2 yrs and 3 months. There are a lot of reasons....I'm graduating college this year, we wanted a certain hall that had limited dates, and I'm not in a huge rush. Sometimes I wish it was sooner, but I like being able to take my time. And yes, soooooo many people have comments!!

But then if you think about it, if you have a short engagement, like a friend of mine who was married last year, she actually had a lot of people (some of them people she doesnt know very well or at all), especially older women, ask her if she was pregnant! (She wasnt). Or she was too young, or she should wait longer...Some people are never satisfied. Maybe we should ask these people if they want to pay for part of the wedding, and then we dont have to have such a long engagement.

Can I say DITTO DITTO DITTO!!. I can not wait till this April to say 1 more year. We have a 1 year 8 month engagement, after dating 7 years. We took the extra time to save money, however where's the money? I would like to know. We got engaged first and will be the last married. We are now funding everyone elses weddings that we are in. Hope to have money for ours!

We have a 2 plus year engagement and yeah it s ucks sometimes b/c sometimes it feels like it is so far away. But I'm sooo happy that we waited. We have been able to save $$, Peter was able to buy himself a new car, I have time to study for the bar exam in peace w/out any distractions, I have time to find a job, ect. My list could go on and on.
Don't listen to what other people say. No one knows your circumstances, besides you and your FH. You need to do what is best for YOU BOTH!

People are really unbelievable, it still amazes me. My FMIL was the one who questioned why we waited - excuse me, are you contributing at all??? I also had a neighbor who said to me - 'How old will you be? You know what they say about the biological clock and all...' I'm 28 you idiot! Ugh, sorry to vent. Anyway, just ignore them and enjoy that you have time to do all your planning!

Don't feel bad! Me and my FH were only together 7 1/2 months when we got engaged. We always got asked why so soon? We're not getting married until 2005 and we have been engaged for 1 year already. Now we get why are you waiting so long? I never know what to say anymore- so I just smile and walk away now. Ignore them! You're doing what's right for you guys, and thats all that matters!

Oh Geez, you're talking to a girl who's not getting married until 2005, and I have NOT heard the end of it for the entire 3 months we've been engaged. I am so sick of explaining to people that FH finishing school is on the top of the list of priorities at the moment. Please, like I'm going to get married and not be at least a little financially stable. I'm smarter than that! But apparently, people are just impatient. Good thing we're not

Re: For those with a 2 year engagment...
My husband and I were together for 3.5 years before we got engaged, and took another 25 months to get married.
Wait until after the ceremony, at the reception we had about 15 people ask us when are we having kids!!!!
