Original post by RobNCyn
My fiancee and I have been going crazy with this debate - What are you or have you ladies done? Did you or do you plan to rgister for fancy China? I'm afriad I won't use it and we could use the money on more important things.
TIA for your help, advice, etc

We did register because my mom had already bought us service for 8 so we just wanted to add. However if she had not bought it I probably would not have registered for it since now it just sits in the closet.

I think it's better to register for formal china to have years down the line and NOT register for casual stuff (that's what we did.)
If it will make you feel so much better though to not register for it - remember that the only rules are made by you! :)

you ladies are awesome! Thank you for all your ideas and thoughts. I like china, it's just a lot of money if I am not going to use it - and with me, I never know. I figure I will leave it on the registry (I picked Lenox Sheer Bliss) and if we really do not get enough sets and can not afford more, BBB said we could return anything from the registry for a cash refund and that they give a discount of the remainder of the China for us to finish the sets.

I am def. registering for china it's italian tradition that the MOB buys the china, I'll prob never use it lol I don't think my mom has ever used hers, it makes a beautiful display in the china cabinet in the dining room but I would be scared to use such fine china...still want it though.

For the longest time I was dead set against it, I dont have a china cabinet right now and I never thought I would use it and while we were registering and talked to the people at Macys and BBB they convinced me its probably the only time I'll be able to get it and register for it. If I get it, I get it if I don't, I don't. Hope this helps!

UPDATE: Formal China!! To register or not to register . . .
Thank you so much ladies!! If you want to know . . . FH has been hasseling me all night about this - he's on the 'take it off' side right now. And ready for this . . . talk about Groomzilla
I already have fake china in my china cabinet (I live in a house with my sister right now)
and FH just goes into the cabinet - takes out a set of everything and sets it up on the table!!!!
Then he asks me to look at it and then decide if we really need another set of dishes!

just 1 more opinion... both FH's mom and mine have their china from their weddings 35 years ago... and DONT use them. My mom offered to give us her chine because she never uses it. the funny thing is it looks like something we would pick!

we registered for china....china these days arent like the old fashion china..they have very nice, simple, trendy, etc whatever your taste is... i am obsessed with mine and it will definately use it...AND it is only like 50 bucks for a 5 peice serving ..you dont have to get the crazy expensive kind..
also if you register for it at BBB people can get 20% off the china which is amazing and comes out cheap and more likely to get 12 settings..
