Former brides (and grooms)

I know there have been posts like this before, but there are a lot more formers now

what (if anything) do you regret about your wedding?

what do you think you could have done without or what do you wish you would have added?

Re: Former brides (and grooms)

I think we had EXACTLY what we wanted in our wedding. Our day was seriously PERFECT. From the weather, to my dress, to teh cake, to the music. HOWEVER.......

If I had to change one thing, I would have changed teh deacon who married us. He could barely remember our names, even though we met with him a million times, and he made a mockery of our ceremony. My grandfather almost got up and punched him, and my dad had to hold him back! (I recently just found this out). But I do feel bad for the deacon, as I think he make have dementia or alzheimer's.

EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!

If I had to change something I would have added anothe hour to cocktail hour so I could attend it! Thats it!!!

ETA: After reading the next post - REAPPLY your lipstick!! Noone told me to and I dont normally wear it so I didnt know, until I SAW MY PICS! Theyre not bad, but I think it would have been nicer with the lipstick.

Re: Former brides (and grooms)

On the day of the wedding, very little really bothered me. Only after getting my photos and really thinking back on the day and days leading up to the wedding, did things start popping up.

I have a long list of things that bothered me and/or that I regreted/would have liked to change. I was really upset about these things for about 3 months after the wedding. So I wrote all of my thoughts out and since then (about 2 weeks ago), I've felt better about the wedding day. I can't change it. It's done, and over. I can only start looking forward and to all the wonderful things that are in store for us!

But, I will share one thing from my list:

1. I wish I would have waited longer before deciding who to choose to be in my bridal party. Not to rehash all the gory details, but you really learn who your true friends are when you plan a wedding.

oh and 2. REAPPLY YOUR LIPSTICK! And if it's hot and you're a little sweaty, go powder your nose too! It can't hurt

yeah I did the same thing. I have two older sisters (16+ years older) who were my MOH's. But, they are just in very different stages of their lives, than I am. So, my wedding and their lives didn't mesh so well.

I suppose you could say 'they tried'. I say 'they tried to make my life a living hell'. But it's over. And they're still my sisters, so We move on!

i would have told DH's step mother to get over herself and to put her insecurities aside for one day --DH was 30 mins late to the church b/c she decided that she didn't want to take the limo (with DH's mother and step dad) to the church --so she and her husband left the hotel without saying anything to anyone and everyone was searching for them --they didn't want to leave without them...

OMG You're kidding? So people are so full of themselves that they just can't be in the background. They need to make everything about themselves.

Re: Former brides (and grooms)

I have very few regrets about our wedding, just a couple things I would change:

-I would have used someone else for our invitations
-I would ask how many bartenders would be available at our cocktail hour--we didn't have enough at the beginning

But my main regret is spending so much time worrying about little things. In the end, I don't think anyone paid much attention to them, but I drove myself crazy over them.

Re: Former brides (and grooms)

I can honestly say that my day was perfect. The actual wedding, the church ceremony was flawless, and the reception was the most fun I have had ever. Plus my hall really took care of all my OCD little details so it was awesome.

-I would have hired someone else to do my hair...a no brainer for me!

And...if I had to do it all over again, I would save myself a lot of tears and I would have flown down to GA months before to have my mom measure me for my dress instead of being a naive little girl and thinking that because it's mom 'everything will be OK'. I would also have been a litle more aggressive about mom making the BM's dresses. I was very, very relaxed about this and this caused the most amount of anguish. However, since the dresses were my only issues and they turned out fine and gave way to a *perfect in every way* day, I guess I can't chage it. It made my day memorable and the pictures are priceless...

ETA: After reading Jen_n_Dale's response...yes, my guest list! I would have cut out some of the irresponsible members of DH's family that I had an inkling would not show and invited friends in their place. One person I wish would have been there is Jill...so if I had a 'do over' I would invite her and her FH.

HMmm. I don't think i would have changed anything in regards to the ceremony and catering, accessories, etc. The only thing is I would have asked my cousin to be in the wedding. I didn't and I regret it to this day.

I wouldn't change anything but... Reapply lipstick often... would be the one thing I would do different. You are kissing so many people, then you don't like the way you look in pictures.

First of all, he started with an anti-woman joke. Basically something about wives being naggers and husbands being workers. Then he was calling the bestman by JT's name. He would start a sentence, then completely trail off. Then he was standing up by the podium thing on the altar giving the homily, and I guess the light started to flicker, and he stopped what he was saying and said, 'Wow, this light keeps flickering, hmm, but I won't get off track by it,' then he would start a new sentence, then go back to, 'This light is REALLY flickering now.'
THEN he never pronounced us husband and wife, and never said 'You may now kiss the bride.' INSTEAD.....HE kissed me before JT could. Then I just pulled away and said to JT, KISS ME, KISS ME! Because the deacon was about to send us down the aisle. It was at such a weird angle, we don't even have a picture of our first kiss
I wondered for a while if we were even REALLY married

ETA: Here's my first kiss as a married woman. I was kind of hoping it would have been JT, and not some old guy!

Re: Former brides (and grooms)

We would have had 1 less Bridesmaid. To this day, we do not speak to her because of her behavior on our wedding day and the day before.

I would have done a centerpiece give a way because 3 of my P.O.S in laws ran to OTHER TABLES taking them...

I would have used a different local florist. He was too expensive and his work was TERRIBLE

Rach, I am so sorry sweetie! Did that guy kiss you on the lips? I can't believe you had to go through that...

Well, it'll make for an interesting story to your kids one day.

Re: Former brides (and grooms)

I would have hired a photography student to take candid shots of the wedding guests. I just got my proofs back and 90% of our guests aren't in them.

Ditto to the lipstick.

I wish someone would have whispered in my ear to pull up my dress. I was practically popping out by the end of the night

NO! Thank god he kissed my cheek. It LOOKS like he kissed me on the lips, though. hahaha
