So my FMIL said that people are going to expect that Im registered at fortunoffs- but they didn't have a lot of things I specifically wanted, but Macys does. And no one from maine, ohio, atlanta, seattle, or chicago (where my family is) knows what fotunoffs is, but everyone knows Macys. Is it bad if I dont register at fortunoffs?

I dont' think there is anything wrong -you could always do a small registry there to appease her and you are able to order online with fortunoff also.

No, it's not bad. Register at the place that has what you want!
Both of my brothers (and I think all my cousins as well) registered at Fortunoffs... but they all married people from the NY area. My FI is from out of state and so is his entire family. There are no Fortunoff stores anywhere near them. We opted for Macys and Crate & Barrel. (I loooove Crate & Barrel!)
Do what works for you and your FH -- There is no 'right place' to register!

I dont think she really cares- it is more like she is saying people are going to go there expecting to find us registered and be confused when we don't have one there.

Re: fortunoff
we already have them at C7B, Macys, and Pottery barn. I just feel like fortunoffs and Macys are too similar. But I didn't know if people on LI usually just assume someone has a registry there.
For example, his sister and aunt went to get us an engagement gift the other day and went to forunoffs assuming we were registered there and then found out we wern't when they got there. I just feel bad if people go there only to find out we are not registered there. But we didn't list it on our wedding website.

Well... a lot of people on LI do register at Fortunoff. I was planning to register there until I realized none of the OOT people had Fortunoff anywhere near them... so we chose Macys instead. I was registering at Crate & Barrel no matter what, though! I loooove that store.

You can register where you want.
I know plenty of people who did not register at Fortunoffs for the same reason and it was fine!

i would have to agree. for out of state people, macy's is your better bet.
set up a small registry at fortunoff. if you get stuff you don't like, you can return it. you can always find something to buy in fortunoff with the credit!

I just had a bad experience buying someone a gift off of the Fortumoff registry. I checked off for it to be shipped the the registrant and they sent it to me. Then I had to be home so UPS could pick it up and deliver it to the right person. This was 2 weeks ago and she still hasn't received it. I wouldn't recommend them after that experience.
