When I started looking at DJs, I thought that I only wanted a one man show. Then I met with a DJ this weekend who is more than willing to do my wedding himself, but cautioned me that with the size of my bridal party (and announcing all of them) and with wanting to do a bouqet dedication song, the day would run smoother with a DJ AND an MC. The prices are pretty good and I can afford either one. I am concerned now that if I don't have a DJ and an MC, my reception will not run as smoothly as it otherwise would have.
What do you girls think? I liked the company and will probably go with them either way, but am now trying to decide if I want to spend an additional three of four hundred dollars on the second person.
By the way, I am nixing the garter/bouqet thing and no electric slide type dance that would require the DJ to get on the dancefloor and lead. Also, no giveaways or disco lights.
I need some opinions. Other than Keith's opinion that he doesn't care either way!

You shouldn't need an MC. A good DJ can do both without youhaving to pay extra. Try Andy A @ Hypnotic Sounds 917-793-4656. He has the talent you want and also does the favors and things. If you have a big wedding, he brings help and i dont think he charges for it either!

I think you could do without the MC although we got both. I thought things would go alot better with both and the cost was not that much more.

If your potential DJ is telling you he would be able to run things smoother with help, then you should consider his cautions. Maybe he's just looking to get you to spend the extra money, but maybe he really can't handle things as smoothly.
Our DJ, Eddie at Parameters, ran things perfectly, and he played the role of both DJ and MC. Okay, so our wedding party was small, but I don't really see what difference that would make .. but then again, I'm not a DJ or MC. We had a lot of things going on that night. Not only did we do the 'Anniversary Game' to honor the longest married couple, to whom we presented the bouqet to, we also did a dedication to my brother and sister-in-law, who had celebrated their 10-year anniversary just a few days prior. Plus, my husband and I had special dedications to each other, along with the typical father/daughter dance. We also had a friend of ours play the bugle .. during the intros, as well as later in the night, he played 'America the Beautiful.' So, you can see, we had lots going on, and all was handled smoothly. Eddie did have someone there, but from what I could see, he was there to assist with the giveaways we did, and obviously the set up and tear down. And I know for sure Eddie was the only one MCing and spinning the music.
Consider what this DJ is telling you, then determine whether you don't mind spending the extra money. Afterall, if you are clicking with this DJ, definitely go for it if the extra money is in your budget. If you think you'd find better uses for that extra money, consider finding someone else who would feel more comfortable handling things on their own.
