DH & I found a dog tonight. He is resting safely in our home and having a wonderful time playing with DH. He's such a sweetheart though, and we really want to reunite him with his owners because I imagine they must be heartbroken!
I don't want to give out too many details, because I want to make sure that he gets to his rightful owner. However, he was found in western Nassau, so if you or someone you know has lost a dog who could potentially be in that area, please FM me a description of the dog!
Update: We have called pretty much every shelter, vet, and pet store in the area. No luck yet.

Re: Found dog!
Hey, maybe reach out to these ppl! That was very kind of you to take him in!
Careful with this 'found dog' around other pets. Who knows what he might be carrying? I'd treat the poor thing for fleas and keep his food & water separate from any pooches or kitties you already have.

Re: Found dog!
FH and I found a dog about 3 years ago. We first took him to the vet to see if he had a micro-chip (he did not). The vet told us he was 14 years old and was almost blind. i was so sad, he probably got out of his house and got lost because he couldn't see. we ended up taking a nice picture of him and hanging up signs in our neighborhood and sure enough within 10 hours of putting up the signs, the owner called!! I recommend hanging up signs ASAP! the family was so grateful we had found their dog and when i dropped him off three little kids came running out and tackled the dog. it was the best feeling ever. do whatever you can to find the owner! another thing that we did was take the dog for long walks around hte neighborhood and ask people we saw if they recognized him. we asked joggers, mailmen, etc.

Re: Found dog!
TAKE him to a shelter. The ones in the city post pictures of the found dog online (I know this because I rescued a dog running towards the highway in Queens). The shelter will hold and care for the dog for 3 days and then you are free to adopt the dog.
