Has anyone noticed that Fox Hollow offers one of the fewest passed hor dourves?? Like only 9 ...it is one place we are considering but every other place offers almost 3 times the amount...

Re: Fox hollow
if you are talking about the cocktail hour, it wasnt noticed at our wedding. There were so many options for the serving line, people usually didnt take the passed food. We had 10 stations at our cocktail hour, so there was TONS of food

How many hot stations do they include? I know Fox Hollow lets you pick any 10 from the stations they have. So if you want from the Italian, Asian, French, Mediterranean, etc., you can pick any 10. Where some places you have to pay extra for certain stations. I'm not worried, everything sounds delicious and I think it seems like plenty of food!

Re: Fox hollow
Watermill has 10 plus they have a pasta and carving station on top of th 10.. The area where they lack is the dinner ..we have to choose the options where Fox Hollow has a standard 7 foe th guests to choose from. And the cake is very basic and no real options where Fox hollow has allot of flexibility with the cake options... But Watermill is more money..so hence the dilemma ...

I do not think your guests will notice if there are 10 different foods or 20 different foods passed out.
Weddings on Long Island have sooo much food that it is unbelieveable. I would not disregard a place because there is less passed around food. I know for me I would rather have a few less options passed around and pay less money!

Re: Fox hollow
I went to a wedding there last August -there is more than enough food at the cocktail hour. No need to worry!! 9 passed appetizers is more than enough. :)

Re: Fox hollow
Personally I loved the look and menu of Fox Hollow over Watermill. However the BM I met with at Fox Hollow was a real jerk and I was not happy with them at all, they totally gave us a price wayyy overpriced. It was the highest price I got at any hall I visited and I even went to Russo's on the Bay.. so we crossed it off our list. I'm not a sucker

They do 30 passed, 4 specialty stations (you choose from mediteranean, tex-mex, mashed potato bar, carving station, sushi bar, indian station, and silver chafing dishes - which you get to pick 3 things out of like 35), imported and domestic cheese display, fresh fruit display, veggies with dip display, an italian station with 2 choices and different breads & olives, french station, and an asian station. In addition to specialty drinks, top shelf liquor, and a wine table. All of the choices were a big reason we book Thatched Cottage... That and the food was AMAZING!

Re: Fox hollow
We loved Thatched Cottage.. The couple of things we didn't care for was if it rained we didn't like the upstairs chapel. Secondly we have a couple of guests that are handicapped and there is no elevator and they don't want to be carried up the stairs.. And the last is the reception room is a little dated compared to the rooms we would have at Fox Hollow & Watermill

Re: Fox hollow
Fox Hollows CH isn't limited to what they show you on the menu. If there's something specific you want they are more than accommodating. Half of our guests are Polish so they are putting together a Polish station

We have a handicapped guest and they told us they can go around the back on a path to get to the cocktail hour. For the reception they can go back around the front. Not ideal, but definitely not too bad. I never got to see the chapel because we are getting married in a church. And I can understand your feelings about the reception room. FH wasn't sold on it originally, but we loved everything else so much that we booked. We figured with the dj and centerpieces and whatnot it would work.

They told us the same thing about the handicapped guest for the cocktail hour too and i do agree not ideal but not a deal breaker..it's just we are getting married on -site so hence our problem with using the upstairs chapel if the weather was bad... this is our dilemma ...we have pluses and minuses from the 3 of fox hollow, watermill, and thatched cottage...

Re: Fox hollow
You have to go with the one that you can't get out of your head. We saw 9 (were supposed to see 10 but the last one never showed up to our appointment and we waited 45 minutes!) places and Thatched Cottage was the 2nd place we saw. I kept telling FH I couldn't get it out of my head - I was even dreaming about it! If you don't have that feeling yet, maybe look at other places? There's a million on LI!

You also have to keep in mind aside from the fact that there are more stations than passed foods, that Fox Hollow offers your guests 7 options for dinner, including Duck and Shrimp Scampi. Most places only offer 4 options at best. Dinner is what really counts. You don't want your guests to fill up on small finger foods and then not have any room for Dinner or Cake, which is the bulk cost of catering.

Re: Fox hollow
i do understand that fox hollow as plenty of stations..you do get that and plus from watermill..you're just paying allot more for that...to me where fox hollow is better is on the dinner and the cake...just having a hard time with the passed food....

I don't think anyone is going to notice that you don't have a ton of options being passed around. If that is your biggest complaint then I would go with Fox Hollow, the rooms there are beautiful.
Personally I do not like passed food anyway, there is so much other food you can go up and have served to you. I don't like grabbing things off a plate that someone is holding

I do want to throw it out there that you get 7 choices at Thatched Cottage for dinner too. (What can I say? I like repping my vendors! )

Re: Fox hollow
It's got to be a gut instinct. The fox gave me 9 passed, 12 hot stations, 6 cold stations, and a seafood boat for cocktail hour. You have the most pull before you book, they have the ability to give you more you just have to ask for it! I saw the thatched cottage, beautiful outside space but I was not impressed with the options for food, and the handicap issue was a real problem for us, outside and around the ramp feels wrong in December but that was us. Crest Hollow offered $20 less a plate but it was no where near the same worth. NEGOTIATE!
