so i'm still in bali on my honeymoon, and yesterday we were on a tour and we were talking about how dh got sick one of the days. so the guide was like, did you accidentally use the tap water to brush your teeth? and we're like umm...accidentally? we've been using it every day! so basically we're SUCH DUMBAS$ES. anyway, she's like...didn't your doctor tell you not to drink the water when you went for your vaccines? and we're like ummmmmm... WHAT VACCINES? and they were like 'they're typhoid in the water here!!' so yeah, we're here, not drinking the water, but still obviously consuming it in other ways, with no vaccines. i wish i could say that i forgot with all the hustle and bustle of the wedding/moving/new job, but it really just didn't even occur to me. i feel so dumb. now i guess we just have to pray that we don't get a fatal illness. does anyone know when people normally get typhoid vaccines and how long they last? also, hep a & b? thanks so much!!!

I HOPE YOU'RE OK!!!
When we were thinking of going to South Africa I asked my doctor what vaccines we would need and she said Hep A, Hep B, Typhoid, Malaria (<- pills) and Rabies as well as making sure our MMR and tetnus were up to date... We would have had to go to a travel clinic to get them and then FH decided he wanted to go somewhere else.
Just stick to the bottled water for the rest of the trip!!!

Sorry to hear that! Is there a clinic that you can go to and get checked? When do you come back to the states to get checked?

Thanks, girls. I come back on Tuesday, so hopefully we'll be ok until then. Then, at least, we will have access to proper medical facilities if anything does happen.

Very scary. Before I went to Peru, I got hep a an typhoid vaccines. If I remember correctly, I got it like a month before....I believe they last a few months to a year. The hep a you could get a second one to make it last longer. Maybe 2 years.
