FREAKING OUT-My wedding is now impossible??!!-UPDATE
FH and I are going on our honeymoon in June though our wedding is in 19 days because I am a teacher. We applied for our passports about 3 weeks ago...NOT thinking that we were sending away our birth certificates which we need for our marriage license! I have no idea what to do...everything is planned and the most important thing is now impossible. We can't get married! What do I do? I can order a new one, pay for it, and it may not even get here on time! I called the passport services and they are no help. I waited on hold for 1/2 an hour to find out that all they can tell me is my application is in process...duh. The only way to get it expedited is to write a letter to New Hampshire....no phone/no e-mail. I AM GOING TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK!!!
UPDATE: Thanks for all of the help, ladies! FH met me at work yesterday and we went straight to Queens! We have our marriage license!

You should be able to get a stamped copy of your birth certificate from town hall in the town you were born in.

I ordered it online...I was born in Brooklyn. I will not be able to go there in the next couple of weeks.

You do not NEED your passport to apply for a marriage licence. You need a drivers licence or permit. Here is the link to the city clerk's office stating the necessary information:

I just applied for my passport in the beginning of February and got it in the mail last week. My birth certificate came a few days later. So fingers crossed yours comes back soon too!

That is if you apply on the island but if you apply within the NYC limits you do not need it. Check the website.

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, I am a teacher in a leave replacement position and there is no way I can get to NYC during the week. I think I am pretty much screwed. I am at a loss for words.

The Queens office is open until 4pm Monday-Friday. Is it possible for you to leave an hour early one day? I know it sounds terrible but you could say that you are sick and go.

There is no way your employer will let you leave for this even if you explain this situation? I would at least try to ask for time off for this emergency!
But on a positive note, 3 weeks is longer than you think. You may get all your documents back in time. If not, you can just have the officiant sign the marriage certificate at a later date. Your legal marriage date will not be the same as your wedding date but the only people who will know that will be the two of you and your officiant.

I was not baptized. My parents are of 2 different religions and I was raised with no religion. Thanks for trying to help, ladies. I guess I could try to leave work early one day...but it's risky. I am sitting here crying right now. This is unbelievable.

I am trying to look this up. Can you tell me exactly where it is? I work in Babylon. School ends at 2:30...I asked FH if he could leave his job early, meet me there when I get out and then we could go straight to Queens...I hope we would make it in time.

yeah i actually live right by where it is. Its on queens blvd. Are you by the northern state bc you can take that, and get off at the Queens blvd exit and once you get off the courthouse is right by there. You need to make a left but when you get off the exit you cant make a left so you just go down 2 blocks and you will see theres a left lane turn only(well more like u-turn) you make the left and take that straight. You will see when you get by the bally's its a huge building and you cant miss it, it splits, just stay on your left hand side and the courts will be the following block

Thank you. I am bad with directions, unfortunately. I found the address online and mapquest says it will take 45 mins. I am cutting it way close.

oh yeah will take 45 mins or quicker if there is no traffic though, ive done it in faster time than that. I drive to LI alot and like i said i live right by the courthouse. To give you an idea, think of where you are getting on by you on the northern state, which then automatically turns into grand central as you enter queens and QUeens blvd is exit 15.

Babylon is on the south shore so mapquest is telling me Southern State. Should I just take that? By the way, thank you for responding. You seem to be the one who always has all the answers for me.

yeah you can take the southern state to the van wyck, it wont be that bad. I take the van wyck many times to get home. Its like 5 mins away once you get off the exit. PERSONALLY, I avoid the southern state and van wyck during rush hour bc the traffic can get real bad, i always take the northern state or grand central if i can bc usually easier to deal with so thats why i suggested that. But southern state to van wyck is fine

I take the Northern State and Grand Central home from work in Queens every day. At around 2:30pm going from Long Island to Queens you should hit little to no traffic. Even when I got out of work at 2 I wouldn't hit traffic heading out to Long Island, now I leave at 3:30 and its a different story, but since you are going the opposite direction of the traffic you should make it no problem. Just try to have FH there as soon as you get out of work.
