I'm having a friday night wedding and I'm not really concerned. Most people work until 5 or 6 and the CH doesn't start until 7. Plus it's Columbus day weekend so people that have a long weekend might be getting out early. Plus Friday night weddings give people the whole weekend to do what they like with

Re: FRIDAY NIGHT RECEPTIONS...
I had a Fri night wedding in Sept. I had many more people at my wedding then I expected. I think my family either kept their kids home from school all day or just a 1/2 day b/c I had many of my cousins there as well. My mass started at 3pm.
I think Friday weddings are such a normal occurance now that it's not a big deal for people.

I had a fri night wedding and didnt hear any complaints about it at all. My one complaint was that the cake cutting was pretty late in the night and some people left before the cake cutting and they missed the candy buffet

Re: FRIDAY NIGHT RECEPTIONS...
Thanks everyone for your input! I'm just so torn between Fox Hollow at a good price on a Sat or go with Sand Castle for a Fri reception at a better than Sat price...decisions, decisions!!
I understand the concept of whoever is important to me will make it a point to be there but I just didnt want ONLY fam and close friends...I wanted some of the extended invitees too, the more ppl to see my walk down that aisle the better! If I were having the ceremony at the hall this wouldnt be an issue but I'm not sure about that yet...
and I'm loving the 11/4/11 wedding dates ladies!! Thats a pretty popular date I see...its also my bday!! congrats to everyone!!

Re: FRIDAY NIGHT RECEPTIONS...
I think it's wrong to imply that people who don't come to the ceremony don't want to be there. People have obligations - like work. It's not so easy to take off for every Friday wedding when you have 5 in a year and you only get 10 days vacation each year, like my fiance. He's in a Friday night wedding that he will need to take off for, and it's a really difficult since we have our own wedding in May that he wants to take off for and our two-week honeymoon in July.
Also, traffic is definitely worse on Fridays so if people are traveling from out-of-town it's often difficult. I attended a Friday night wedding in Jersey. We missed the ceremony and just made it for the shuttle to cocktail hour. Traffic on the GWB on Friday at rush hour is MURDER!!!
I'm also a teacher. I can't take off random days. And a lot of time I'm exhausted on a Friday evening since I'm up at 4:45am for work. I can't make it to Friday afternoon ceremonies.
I understand the financial need to have a Friday night wedding, but to be honest, I would have looked for a less expensive reception hall on a Saturday. I feel Saturday night weddings are way more convenient. I moan whenever I see another Friday night invitation!

We are having ours on friday of memorial day weekend. I'm concerned about traffic, but I think most people will realize to get out of work early, and my close family will probably take the whole day off. Those that are far away will come up the night before. Who wouldn't want a 4 day weekend? Our ceremony is at the RH and starts at 630, but the invite says 6. No need to worry about early people, there is a room and they provide beverage service before the ceremony. I've only been to one Friday night wedding, and the ceremony was at a church in the afternoon. I had the whole day off, because I don't get home until 8pm so I wouldn't be able to go at all if I didn't have off. But the only people that seemed to be there was the bride and groom's family. Not really many friends or co workers. I did debate this a lot. Traffic is really my only concern at this point. I'm hoping a lot of people get rooms and come early to check in! People will make arrangements with their jobs so they can get there on time. Who would rather work than go to a wedding?
Believe me, I'd rather go to a wedding than work, but it's not always so easy! My principal would not be pleased if I attempted to take off for every wedding I needed to attend! Including my own, I have 7 weddings to attend this year!

I agree - The reality is that the ceremony is the MOST important part!!! Although sites like this want you to think the reception is the most important part, it's not! And, no matter where you have your wedding, it will be amazing because you will be celebrating with family and friends!
