Friday Night Vs. Sat.Night

Original post by karenml

I was wondering if I could get some feedback on which day you guys think is better if we end up not being able to afford a Sat. Night. My Finance thinks Fri. and I was leaning to Sunday. Thanks!

I did a Sunday night wedding b/c I knew if I had a Friday wedding I would have an empty church and I didn't want that.

Let me tell you, I had 258 guests at my wedding which went from 7-12. About a dozen guests left before viennese hour but my dance floor was packed until the very last song. And then people still came back to the hotel to hang out too.

The bottom line is it really depends on your crowd.

i would prefer friday night...except if you are having the ceremony in a church, many people might not come...what about a saturday afternoon.

I like Friday!
It's the start of the weekend...everyone is ready to party and enjoy themselves. Sunday might be hard because people have to work the next day and those are my LAZY days!

I did Sunday night. Friday is very difficult for some people (me) to make, esp if it's a commute from where I work...plus, one has to remember that these people have to go home & change. Plus, many people do not work 9-5.

BUT, that being said, getting up the next morning is difficult and people do leave just a touch earlier if it's a Sunday. Fridays allow for post-wedding cocktail hours & celebrations.

It's a pick-your-poison situation.

i really like friday weddings b/c the whole weekend is free.....saturday weddings are nice but the whole day and night are shot for your guests.....at least on friday most people can relax and party after work (well at least ppl who work on friday can) and everyone still has a free weekend.....im glad we picked a friday.....im sure there will be people who show up late, or complain about it being a friday night - but i dont really care we leave for our Honeymoon on Sunday so we have a day in between which is nice too!

We didn't have a choice because we are only having 120 people at our wedding and we didn't meet the minimum # of people for a Friday or Saturday night wedding. Our friends and family would have had to take off on Friday to come to the rehearsal dinner (most live OOT) so instead they have to take off on Monday.

You know what, you will never make EVERYBODY attending your wedding happy, its impossible...whether you do friday, saturday or sunday, night or day. Its YOUR day, pick what you like best. Everyone is different and will have different reasons for what they prefer. I can guarantee you that no matter what day you do it, you will have an amazing wedding and it will be the happiest day of your life. Those that you are closest to will be there no matter what and it won't be a burden.

i dont want to make people feel bad about the day they picked...ive gone to lots of sunday weddings and guess what, yes i was tired the next day but you know what i went, danced, ate and had a great time, its one day so i dealt with it. Its not a problem...ive done friday and again it was fun and had a great time.

girls no matter what day, your wedding will be fabulous

Friday Night...or a Sunday Night before a Holiday.

I definitely prefer a friday night...my wedding it on a friday

I prefer it over a sunday afternoon because people have to work on monday and I like late receptions. I do have to admit though, it's harder for guests to make it to the church but i figure that most people don't go to the church anyway. The ones who usually go are close relatives who will likely take the day off anyway. Good luck!

I would prefer a Friday night wedding over a Sunday night.

Friday nights you can drink and party until the end of the wedding and have the next day to recover, whereas on a Sunday night, people either have to take that Monday off or leave early so that they can get home at a reasonable time.

Sunday afternoons are a great option as well. You can check with some places if they offer twilight Sundays, which mean instead of a 12pm start, it might start around 3-4pm and end by 9-10pm.

Friday is hard with people needing to leave work early, etc., but at least they are in 'party mode', and psyched to leave work, and start their weekend.

I refused to do a Sunday because I want people to drink and have fun, not having to worry about work the next day. Even when there is a 3 day weekend, many people don't have off on the monday.

I would pick Friday, over a Sunday.

I think Friday is nice bc most people have off the next day.

Maybe you can do a sunday on a holiday weekend? Some places charge more, while others don't.

totally agree with you. I went back and forth 100 times which would work better for us. I was in a wedding on a sunday night and liked that we had all day to get ready, and I did take off on Monday and quite a few of the older guests or anyone who had children left a little early, but other than that it didn't matter, we had a blast. I chose a Friday night b/c we are older and have a number of children coming to the wedding and felt that at least they wouldn't have to get up early the next day. Personal preference.

I'm having a Sunday night wedding.
I'm Jewish, and you can't have a wedding from Sundown friday until soundown Saturday. In July, sundown on sat would be too late for a saturday night wedding. So Sunday it had to be! Ideally, I would have loved to have had a 4:00 wedding, kinda happy hour time, people would be able to drink and it would end early enough for people to work the next day. But, I had a choice between noon or 6, and I am not getting up early on my wedding day!!!
So its a night time weeding, and I'm happy! Do what works for you. Espo was right, there is absolutely no way to make everyone happy!

I am doing a Friday night wedding b/c Saturday came out to be about 30.00 more PER PERSON!! Which came out to about 8,000 more for a Sat. I am not a big Sunday wedding fan.

I personally prefer a Friday (I had a Fri night wedding) because I love to party at night and not have to get up for anything the next day. But Sunday weddings are a lot of fun too.

we were in a similar situation. I personally think there is something romantic about a friday night. And its a great start to the weekend! Sundays are great too for afternoon weddings. There is something more casual about it- but also very elegant. I think whichever you choose will be fine!!
