Because of budget reasons, I may be looking at either a Friday night or Sunday night wedding.
Church would be around 3pm on both days. Cocktail hour would most likely start at 6pm and the reception will end around 11:30pm on both nights.
The scenarios:
For Friday: My bridal party will have to take off both Thurs and Fri from work (since some are OOT) for the rehearsal dinner the night before and the wedding. But both the bridal party and wedding guests would have Saturday to recouperate and travel back home etc.
For Sunday: My bridal party and guests would only have to take off Monday (if they wanted/needed to). But I'm just worried that some wedding guests will need to leave early to get ready for work the next morning.
I probably would do Sunday. That would just be my preference.
If you do Friday night, be prepared that some guests may not make it to the CH or may skip the Church do to work.

Re: Friday night vs. Sunday wedding
we chose a Friday night. Most people would make a long weekend out of it. same for our BP, they would need to be here the thursday before for the rehearsal dinner. We have done that for many friends, so i dont see why it would be any different for our wedding

I agree. We're doing a Friday night as well. Also we figured that a lot of people get out of work early on a Friday during the summer anyway.

Re: Friday night vs. Sunday wedding
When we got engaged (a year ago ) I planned to have my wedding on Sunday 10/10. However thinking it through, I didn't want my guests to stress over leaving early to get up for work the next day. So I moved it to Saturday (and now may consider moving it to Friday).
I think Friday would be better because some guests can stretch it out into a 3 day weekend - plus you have all of Sunday to recover if you're not going straight on your honeymoon after the reception.

I am getting married Sunday (3:30 church, CH starts at 6:30). For me, I thought it would be easier for my guests on Sunday.

Re: Friday night vs. Sunday wedding
i personally prefer a Friday night. The guest still have the whole weekend to travel home and relax. Sunday they will have to worry about getting back to work. Plus I think Friday is more of a 'party night' so I'd be more up to drinking and dancing on a Friday...thats just my opinion though.

Re: Friday night vs. Sunday wedding
Either way may be tricky for certain guests....as for a Friday, people who work in a school may have a difficult time getting to a ceremony at 3pm. If they are in the wedding, they'd have to take off the whole day, and depending on the district they work in it may not be easy to do.
If it's a Sunday, people who come from far may need to leave early or take off the next day. Don't worry too much about it, the people that care about you will do whatever they need to do to be there.

Re: Friday night vs. Sunday wedding
Depends on who you are and who your guests are - I don't think there is a consensus on 'best' or 'easiest' non-Saturday option. FH and I are getting married on a Friday because it worked best for us and our guests. Personally, I don't like going to Sunday weddings. Do I go though? Of course. So when it came time for me to get married, I avoided Sunday and went with Friday - but that is my own personal preference.
There is nothing 'wrong' with having a wedding on either of these days though so you don't need to be so sad about it.

Thanks for all the input!!!
There are definite pros and cons to both. But I do agree that those who really want to be there, will be there no matter what.

Re: Friday night vs. Sunday wedding
i think it just depends on you and your guests... do whatever works best for you... we're getting married sunday night in the summer... that just worked better for us because we have a lot of ppl coming from out of town so they will just have to take monday off as opposed to thurs and fri... also, fri ppl might be late because of work... as for ppl leaving early on a sunday, that was one of my initial fears too but then i realized that the people who matter will be there til the end

Re: Friday night vs. Sunday wedding
I'm doing a Sunday... I chose the date partially because Columbus Day is the following day, and a portion of our guests have off from work. Also, we're doing a Sunday afternoon, whereas our reception will be ending around 6pm, leaving guests time to relax or travel before the week begins.

As a guest, I've been to both and would prefer a Friday night wedding. So we made ours a Friday night as well!

Re: Friday night vs. Sunday wedding
i don't see a difference between friday and sunday, although the last friday wedding i went to, i didn't go to the church because of work (they don't like teachers taking off on fridays or mondays). the last sunday wedding i went to luckily it was a holiday weekend, so i had off. otherwise, i just would have gone to work tired on monday.

Re: Friday night vs. Sunday wedding
Have you thought about a Sunday morning wedding? My belief is if they are your true friend, they will support you no matter what day or time. Whatever day you pick someone will not be happy. What's important is that you guys are happy. HTH

Re: Friday night vs. Sunday wedding
We chose Sunday church at 3 CH at 6 and reception 7-1130...
Fridays would be really hard and I don't think i would personally like it if many people didn't show up to the church or CH because of work. Yes, I agree Sunday is a big annoying also and we thought about that, but I would rather have people spend the day with us and leave at 10-1030 instead of coming and mising the church and CH.....
It is a matter of preference and what you think is better for you and your guests. Most of my family wouldn't be able to take off on a Friday and I wouldn't want people to HAVE to take off. I have been to plenty of Sunday weddings but the only bad thing is that you may be a bit tired in the morning....
It is totally up to you and FH - whoever WANTS to be there, will be there even if it is a Tuesday morning!!!!!!!

Re: Friday night vs. Sunday wedding
IMO, I would go with the Friday night. For me personally, I enjoy night weddings b/c it is more of a 'party' atmosphere...just my personal preference though. It also gives your guests all weekend to recuperate for work on Monday. A lot of guests might leave early in order to wake up for work Monday.
ETA: We are getting married on a Friday night. Our ceremony is at the RH and doesn't start til 6:30 so I'm not really worried about too many ppl missing the ceremony.

I would do a Sunday; this way people don't have to take off as many days from work. Also; if anyone wanted to take of Monday they can.
