?!?!?!?Friday or Sunday?!?!?!?

Okay, so here is my dilemma..........since we are not yet officially booked for our wedding date, we have to days on hold - a Saturday and a Sunday....originally we thought of having a Sunday evening wedding, but now that I have put much more thought to it, I do not want peope to travel 1 1/2 hrs. for our weding reception and that have to leave early because they will most likely have work the next day, so I really want Saturday and he of course says it's too expensive and I am thinking too much (typical response huh)!! so know he is thinking about having a Friday Wedding...... So now I'm back to analyzing the situation.....What do you ladies think and why??? Thanks in advance for your help!!

I think people will tend to stay later on a Friday (unless they're exhausted from the work week) because they can sleep in on Saturday, but may miss either the ceremony or part of the cocktail hour depending on what time you get started. I think that a Sunday night, people will be more rested and if you can have it so it doesn't end much later than 10 or so, you should be OK. Where do most of your guests live that they will have to travel an hour and a half to get there?

ETA: I didn't vote because there are pluses and minuses to each day.

I remember reading posts about this before. It all boils down to this - do what makes You happy! You are never going to please Everyone. Some people will prefer a Friday, some will prefer a Sunday. Talk it over with your FH (and your families, especially if they're contributing) and choose whichever makes you happier. The people who love you will be there on your wedding day regardless of when it is - even if it was on a Tuesday afternoon!

Good luck with your decision!

I got married on a friday for that same exact reason. The difference in price from a friday night to a saturday night was unbelievable!!! I got married on site this way the ceremony could start later. I would prefer a fri nite wedding to a sun nite wedding anyday. JMO.

My wedding is on a friday night. I think it is better for the guests. They can drink and have a good time and not have to worry about working the next day, especially if they have a long drive ahead of them.

My wedding is on a Sunday nite - I did the same thing - I couldn't decide on Fri or Sun and then I decided that it was our wedding and we did what we wanted to. I just figured it would be hard for people to get to the wedding after work and all too.

I got married on Friday and everyone had a great time. We wound up having the invitation be for 7pm but the ceremony didn't start until 7.30... that way people didn't have to feel bad about missing the church etc.

I agree! I am getting married on a Friday. I would have loved for it to be Saturday but it was not possible ( )

I personally feel that on Friday people are looking to unwind and have a good time and while I have accepted the fact that there will not be many at my church, people will be ready to party that night.

We had our on a Sunday, b/c Saturday wasn't available. Given the choice again, I would definitely pick the Friday instead. Some people left early and a lot of people were tired, probably b/c it was the end of the weekend and they had to go to work the next day. Either way, I think Friday puts less pressure on people.

We couldnt afford a Saturday, so we picked a Sunday. The reception ends at 11:00. Thats not toooooo late, and it might keep the over drinking in control. We didnt want it on a Friday because we have out of town people that need to get here, and becasue a lot of people cant get off work on a Friday to make the wedding. At my my nephews wedding, hardly anyone came to the church, but everyone did come to the reception........and got plastered, because it was a friday night.

I am having Sunday because that way people can make the church and cocktail hour if they wanted. Most Sunday weddings are over by 11pm, so even if the guests left at 10:30 it's not bad. I just went to a friday wedding and the church was empty and 4 people from our table didn't show up until 2 hours into the wedding(said by the time they got off work and got ready). But I am sure they are plus and minus to both. On Friday people can get plastered!

I had a Sunday night wedding and our dance floor was packed until the very end. Nobody left early. Friday night weddings were always harder for me, always had to drive out east in traffic, was a rush to make it on time, etc. But I do think no matter what night you choose, people that love you will be there no matter what!

As a guest, I would prefer a Friday night wedding. I would leave work early if I felt it was necessary and wouldn't mind one bit -- weddings are a wonderful excuse to take half a day off IMO! If that wasn't possible, I'd probably have to miss the ceremony - but so what? The most important people in your life WILL be there if they truly want to be. Plus, after the wedding, I still have my whole weekend ahead of me! That's my opinion, but you should do what makes YOU happy. Like another poster said, you are not going to please everyone no matter what day or time you pick.

I told my FH that I would've married him on a Monday for all I cared. I'm just not that concerned about the guests because I know that the people who really care and want to be there WILL make it. Why should I pay more money so I can have more guests who only care to come to my once in a lifetime wedding IF it's convenient for them? Well, that was my argument... but I lost that battle -- FH INSISTED on Sat!!

We were thinking Sun nite...but it might be hard for the guests having to drive home and get up for work the next day.

But who ever is going to come, is going to come no matter when it is!

Have you thought about having a Sunday day wedding, this way people could still get home early?

I'm having my wedding at 11:30 am on a Sunday. Friday through Saturday at Sundown was out of the question for Shabbat, which left Saturday night or Sunday. We opted for Sunday Morning, and the prices I'm getting on the hall are fantastic!!

Already, one of our friends has started to complain about having to stay in a hotel the night before, and then possibly the night after (so he can drink). I calmly explained to him that we had two choices, and if we had opted for Saturday night, we would not have been able to afford his invitation/plate at dinner. That shut him up.

The people who matter most to you will be there whenever you choose to have the wedding. Let the others complain.

Re: ?!?!?!?Friday or Sunday?!?!?!?

I'm having my wedding on a Friday afternoon and I don't think it's cheezy at all.

I know people that had weddings on Thursdays.

I just think that if you're invited to a wedding where it's a Friday or a Sunday, you should (if you can) take the half day off the Friday afternoon or the Monday morning. Or take the whole day. A wedding is an important event.
I know some people go to college or have jobs where they don't get paid personal or vacation days. But they must go on vacation or take other days off for things...this isn't important enough? It's my own personal opinion, others might feel different.

But a Friday wedding is nowhere near being cheezy, personally, and it's not just b/c my wedding is on a Friday. Nor is a Sunday. Whatever you can afford and whatever you can book is the best choice.
