Friday or Sunday?

Original post by poisonivy918

I was pretty dead set on a Saturday night but seeing how much cheaper some Friday or Sunday nights can be I don't know anymore.

I'm afraid of Friday being all traffic and people showing up late, or being mad they have to rush after work to my wedding. I don't want to have an empty cocktail hour especially paying all this money for food and no one shows up on time.

Sunday I'm afraid people would leave super early because everyone works on Monday. I don't want no one there at the end especially for the cake cutting, etc whatever goes on at the end lol. but I think I rather a Sunday then a Friday if anything.

I don't know what to do. I just started thinking saving more money on the rh would mean more money on other things but I don't even know if it's worth it.

afternoon wedding isn't an option. I want to sleep on my wedding day not be up at like 6 am lol.

Re: Friday or Sunday?

Ah this is my same thought process..
I didnt want a Friday because I have friends coming out of state and I felt that even if I started at 7 that would be hard. On Sunday there was the problem of, why spend this money on an open bar when people arent going to drink that much and then go travel back to work.

I think we finally came up with a solution. A holiday weekend Sunday which most places treat like a Saturday but with a lower price. Labor Day and Memorial Day are two holidays that I feel wont be lower attendance due to holiday plans. I know someone who had their wedding on Presidents Day, it was like a thursday I believe, so that was cheaper too. If you want REAL cheap I heard that November (day after thanksgiving was very cheap) I just know that in my situation with my friends coming out of state I couldnt expect them to be here the day after Thanksgiving

FM me if you want more info :)

We are doing Friday, Ceremony starts at 6pm. I'm sure my family has no prob taking off work early to make it there. FH family is all out of state so they will have to take the day off anyway to travel. BP has to take the day off since we will be doing pics at 4pm and getting ready together. I'm sure there won't be a prob getting FH's office to either close early that day (it's a holiday weekend they will be dying to get out anyway) or just let those invited have a half day, and my job is a 12hr job so they have to take the day off anyway!
I was worried about traffic since everyone will be headed east that day but I'm hoping people are intelligent enough to realize this. Besides the fact that I'm going to tell everyone that when I see them. LOL.

I would def do a Sunday. Don't worry about people leaving early, they have plenty of time to make whatever arrangements they want to make and really, Sunday weddings don't go to 1am, they start a little earlier int he day, so people will stay to the end.

But then you won't really care. If FH's parents weren't so 'involved' I'd have considered a Sunday.

I am doing a Friday wedding. We are getting married at the RH so the ceremony is at 6, CH is 6:30-8, and reception is 8 so I am not worried about people missing anything. I like the idea of having the next day off to see everyone but I have a lot of OOT guest so I dont have to worry about people taking off since they are coming for 4 or 5 days . I think if I was having a church wedding i would feel a little different. Sunday twilight is nice too...

we're having a Friday wedding...just don't make it too early. Our CH starts at 7. Personally, I would use a wedding as an excuse to leave work early lol.

I feel like Sunday weddings are typically earlier in the day, and I prefer late night events.

I feel the same way about the sunday weddings. I like a late party. My wedding is on a friday night and our ceremony starts at 8pm. Its late enough for everyone to work a full day, get home and change and still make it in time.

No matter the time or day of the week your close family and friends to be there no matter what. Just make sure to give them more than enough notice.

You can always do a Saturday afternoon wedding. That's what we did and it was alot cheaper. I'm so glad we had an afternoon wedding too- we had an amazing afterparty. In the end, our day lasted much longer because of that!

But if you're set on nighttime, I'd personally prefer Friday night over Sunday.

We're having a Sunday night time wedding, it's funny because I never even considered a Friday or Sat. I was originally a 10/10/10 bride before my date changed & so I knew I always wanted a Sunday.

Our Ceremony is in the afternoon & cocktail hour starts at 6:30. I just always envisioned a night time reception for myself. I feel like the people who decide to RSVP yes, know what they are getting into and invites are sent out way in advance, so that guest can plan appropriately. Either day you pick, I'm sure you'll have a good turn out

Re: Friday or Sunday?

anybody who is close to you will be there. my cousin got married on the sunday of columbus day weekend....that was great for me, because both DH and I had off the next day from work.....my brother just took the day off.

if you choose a friday, and want a lot of people at the ceremony, make it later in the day. i went to a friday wedding last summer, the church was at 3, if it had been during the school year, I would have had to skip the church. I only say that because it's hard for me to get off a friday or monday during the school year and i know a few other teachers that have that same problem.

Why don't you look into a sunday night of a holiday weekend? FH was really dead set against a friday or sunday, it had to be Saturday night. When we saw how much cheaper it was to do on a friday or sunday, we decided why not do a holiday weekend? We are getting married on the Sunday before Columbus day, this way most people have off on monday and our wedding starts at 6:30 pm.

Our wedding was a Sunday night- cocktail hr was 630 and the reception was over at 1130... Yes a few people left a little earlier but that's going to happen regardless of the day... We had a great party and everyone was dancing and having a good time so don't think that you can't have a great party on a sunday because people have to work the next day... Whichever day you choose, the people who matter and care about you will be there!

We are doing Sunday night. Church will be at 3pm and CH will be from 630-730 and reception from 730-1130.

Like other ppl said if ppl rsvp yes then they will plan way in advance what they are going to to for the next day.

we originally had booked a fri , then changed to Sunday and could not be happier with our decision.
We recently went to a friday wedding and we missed the whole ceremony due to all of the traffic and I was unable to leave work early

Re: Friday or Sunday?

ITA that if your first choice was Saturday, go with a Friday night. I'm doing a Friday night b/c I like a late night party, which I couldn't see myself doing on a Sunday. If I book at a particular RH I'm considering, the ceremony begins at 8pm, CH from 8:30-9:30, reception ends at 1:30am. It's a nice way to end the work week, and to kick off the weekend!
