Friday or Sunday Night?

Friday or Sunday Night?

My mother and I have different views on this. I say Friday night so I know that I can sleep the following day and she says Sunday so that you don't have to go to a wedding right after work in traffic.

Personally.....i rather the friday. I rather leave a tad early from work (or worst case senario and have to be a tad late)....and be able to have a blast and drink the night away, then sleep Sat. I believe with sunday weddings ALOT of people are going to leave early because they have work the next morning.

i actually vote for Sunday

If you are having a fri night wedding with the church, a lot of people may not make it to the church part. Also if people have to travel it makes it harder for them - it forces them to leave work early or take the day off. SOme people have the flexibility to take off but others dont. And even when people say 'if they really care about you they will take time off' some of us do not have that luxury. Our jobs are strict and we have to work our entire day.
I have gone to 2 sundays weddings where FH and i say we are leaving early bc its a sunday night, but we end up having fun and losing track of time so we stay til the end

I like Sunday. I feel like Friday forces you to take the day off from work. Even if the wedding is at 6, with Friday traffic you need to leave a lot of time to get there, plus I'd need to get dressed, so at most I could work half a day, there's no 'leaving a little early'.

For a Sunday wedding, even if it ends at 11:30 or midnight you can leave the wedding a bit early, or just go home and you aren't forced to take a day off from work unless it';s fr away in which case you'd be taking the day off in either case.

Definitely Friday over a Sunday

We had this same dilemma and ultimately chose sunday. We felt like it is more of a PITA to rush home from work, be dragging a$$ and then get to the wedding on time. (granted, we have a lot of guests coming from staten island and what not so it would be a long day for them). We also figured if we want ppl at our ceremony (330) more ppl will come on a sun since they're off. Finally LOL we figured its not a huge deal that ppl have work in the morning - really, who is in bed by 8pm anyway bc they have work in the morning? LOL Thats just my opinion though! If most of your guests are local and you think wouldn't mind heading over right after work then do what works best for you and your guests!

I'm having my wedding on a Friday night at 6:30. I think Friday night weddings are fine. The people who truely love you will be there no matter what day or time the wedding is.

i am doing a friday afternoon/night ceremony from 4pm-8pm. the reception will be the next day (saturday night). i know there will not be a big turn out for the ceremony but it doesn't even bother me!

I think it depends on the vibe your going for. I really wanted a 'party' where everyone stayed up late , could drink and not have to worry about anything the next day.. if you want more of a quiet relaxed easy going day then Sunday would be perfect! I still vote for Friday though ;)

I actually had the same dilemma because I didn't want the Saturday price. I ended up picking a Sunday but my wedding day is the day before Memorial Day so most people are already off on Monday. I saw you had 2013 as your year so hear are the days in that year that have Monday holidays:

Monday January 21st MLK Jr. Day
Monday May 27th Memorial Day
Monday September 2nd Labor Day
Monday October 14th Columbus Day

Hope this helps and good luck with whatever you chose!

I've been to one Sunday night wedding and A LOT that was supposed to go until midnight - A LOT of people were out right after the cake. And I know I was like 'OK let's go...' by 11.

But if you have a Friday wedding a lot of people don't come to the church. But I've noticed that pretty much everyone arrives during cocktail hour.

i'm having my wedding on a sunday, but it's a twilight wedding that will end at 8. if i had to have a true sunday NIGHT wedding where it did not end until 11 or 12, i wouldn't be as happy.. but i'd still have it on a sunday over a friday. even if some people have to leave early on sunday, at least they will be able to come! i have been invited to friday weddings before that i have simply been unable to attend because i would have to take a day off of work to get there. anyway, i don't feel comfortable asking people to take off of work to come to my wedding... so if you have a good number of people coming from a distance, i think sunday is better.

What I like about Friday night is that if it is OOT, it gives me the whole Saturday day to hang out with old friends, etc. because you run into them at the wedding

Plus, I like to get my drink on

I think a Sunday afternoon/twilight wedding is your best bet ... it would be tough to go to a wedding after working a full day, but it would also be tough to come home late and work the next morning! If you schedule your ceremony for afternoon/twilight, your guests will still have time to get home and unwind on Sunday night. Happy planning!! :)

this!!!!
my wedding is twilight... it's ending around 8:30. We wanted to make sure our friends/family could stay til the end and not worry about getting up early.

(the worst was a thurs night wedding, all the way east--had to take a day and a hlf from work uggghhh)

Re: Friday or Sunday Night?

We're getting married on the Friday of Labor Day weekend. Our logic was: It's the last weekend of the summer and our guest might take the Friday off and make it a 4 day weekend if they wanted to. I don't know how many will actually do such a thing, but I didn't think it was a bad idea. Like one of the girls in a previous post said, those who love you and are important in your lives will be at the ceremony and reception.

I am doing my wedding friday morning. If people love me they will take off from work and have a three day weekend.

I have to pick Sunday night. Being Jewish, you're not supposed to get married during the Sabath, so Friday night wasn't an option for us. And I think the whole Friday night thing after work is a PITA. But we also got lucky and the wedding is the Sunday night of Labor Day weekend, so it's like a Saturday night.
