My first post... :) First, we are still unsure of location. One option is the Westbury Manor.
We can't decide on Friday PM or Sunday afternoon. Ceremony would be outdoors, cocktail and reception indoors in their garden/library room. From a 'guest's' perspective, which would you prefer to attend? Cost about the same.

Friday night. THe OOT people will not drive home on a Sunday evening after drinking at a wedding. Nor would you want them to. I think people are more apt to take off a friday then a monday.

Re: Friday PM or Sunday Afternoon
Friday wasn't an option for me for my own wedding because I'm Jewish and Jews don't get married on Shabbat (Fri sundown - Sat sundown). Plus, we have a lot of OOTers. Aside from that, it's very important to me that our guests attend our ceremony. I know on a Friday a lot of people will only go to the reception because of work.
I'm working in the city right now and on an 'early' day I get home from the train around 7:40. I'm exhausted, and it's really hard for me to take off earlier than that. If it was someone close to me I would find a way to take off and I would still go, but it would be a big inconvenience.

Re: Friday PM or Sunday Afternoon
I prefer sunday Pm. In fact I'm getting married on a sunday PM at the Westbury Manor.
Personally, I think friday PM make it really difficult to get too. Most people will HAVE to take off work -- or leave work early.. For close friends not so much of an issue but for all your other guests it wil be an inconvenience.
On a sunday you don't have that issue - if people want to leave early they can. My wedding will end early enough for that not to happen (5:30pm).

I personally would prefer a Sunday early afternoon rather than a Friday evening...it's just me, but I'm tired on Fridays and want to just relax.

Re: Friday PM or Sunday Afternoon
Definitely Sunday. I never, and I mean never, get out of work by 5 PM, even on Fridays. You know your guests best, but I don't know anyone with a desk job who does. Sundays are perfect...no rush between work and getting to the wedding. If your wedding will last till early evening, it will give in-town folks enough time to go home and wind down for work the next day.
ETA--correction.

Re: Friday PM or Sunday Afternoon
my wedding was on a fri night and it was great. yes, people had to make arrangements... but since our guest list was purely our close family and friends, we knew they would get there, and they did. we sent out STDs 9 months in advance so people knew to put in for a vacation day, or 1/2 day, book their flights, etc. it was nice hanging out the next day, having brunch, and knowing there was still another day afterwards to relax.
i've never been to a sunday wedding so i can't speak to which i prefer. i'm sure if people want to be there, they will be no matter what.

Re: Friday PM or Sunday Afternoon
I prefer a Sunday afternoon...I chose a Sunday afternoon for my wedding for two reasons. One is because (some) people are exhuasted after working all week. The other is because the guests can enjoy the view all day instead of just until it gets dark. HTH

I chose Friday because I know that FH and I have so many things to do on a Sunday that it would be hard to spend the day at a wedding.

Re: Friday PM or Sunday Afternoon
I am getting married on a Sunday Afternoon, we made a deal with the venue that if they did not have a party booked after ours we would be able to push back the start time a few hours, and we did just that! Our ceremony is starting at 1:30 leading directly into a cocktail hour and reception lasting until 7:00pm. Guests who have to be at work on Monday have plenty of time to get home and for those like my fiance and I who are teachers (NO SCHOOL OVER THE SUMMER!!) we are having an after party at the hotel bar where we booked a block of rooms!

I voted for Sunday.... for any of your guests that need to travel at least a few hours, you are pretty much asking them to take the day off. I personally work late, and I wouldn't like to be invited to a Friday night wedding -- I would have to leave work early, just to go home and change, because I wouldn't want to go directly from work. And as a bride, I would prefer the Sunday wedding, even though it starts early, because having all day Saturday to rest and get last minute stuff done would be great (plus the people you depend on, like family and bridal party, are also all free to assist, and they probably would not be free on Thursday).

Re: Friday PM or Sunday Afternoon
I am getting married on a Friday night. I chose it over a Sunday b/c most of our friends live in the city and we have only a few out of town guests. Friday night doesn't seem to stop our friends from staying out late and partying either. It really just depends on your guests. I don't mind attending either a Friday or a Sunday and would have a good time either way.

Re: Friday PM or Sunday Afternoon
Fridays are difficult because people get home tired from a long day at work and just want ot relax at thier house. and sundays are also a pain because you cant party late cause theres work the next day so getting drunk is not an option But i'd choose sunday

Re: Friday PM or Sunday Afternoon
you need to think about the people your inviting, if its a young party group then def fri night they will want to party, if your inviting a hard working class who cant take time off from work or have a lot of OOT guests then think sunday
