How have these worked out for you gals... or has anyone attended such a wedding.... I just figure it's cheaper and we'll be able to budget more things in on a Friday than on a Sunday.
Unfortunately, this will limit the weekend that we can do the wedding down to Labor Day weekend of '06 b/c my FH has a son and I know his mom will not allow FH to take his son out of school for our wedding any other friday. It's important to us that the boy's at the wedding though so whatever we have to do I guess we'll do.

Holiday wedding are the best!!! I thinl Labor day weekend would be really good. I've never been to a Friday wedding, but then again I've only been to 2 weddings!

Re: Friday Weddings
I just went to one and it was great. they started the coctail hour at 7 so that poeple could go home after work. Everyone was up and dancing all night so if people were tierd from work it did't show. Plus if you did a holiday weekend some poeple might even take off that friday anyway.

Re: Friday Weddings
I am thinking about having a Friday/Sunday evening wedding as well. I think it is less guest friendly because they will have to take off work to come, but for us it is a big $$$ difference and because we are having a small wedding some places are willing to accommodate us on those nights rather than on Sat.

I have been to a Friday wedding. I have to say, if you're trying to keep the cost down, you might consider looking into a Sunday wedding. I was late to the wedding because of rush hour traffic and I had to go straight from work.

Re: Friday Weddings
I enjoy Friday weddings!
I got married on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, so a lot of people did have plans, but the people who cared the most about us were there on our special day!

Re: Friday Weddings
Yeah, Sunday's okay, but you know then people complain that they have to get up early for work the next day (I've been one of those people - granted I didn't care for the bride so maybe that was the problem).
Seriously, yes, Sunday's are cheaper than Saturday's but Friday's the least expensive of the 3. I can see a 6pm wedding and a 6:30pm CH. If it's Labor Day weekend, I'd think people may be open to taking the day off - then they have a 4 day weekend! Plus, I've been seriously considering the wine vineyards - so it'd be like a vacation for almost all the guests - even the LIers. I want to have the most options so saving a considerable amount of money can help with other expenses like the honeymoon. Plus I want to spend the night in NYC with my FH for our wedding night - a Friday's better than a Sunday for that - by far I'd think!

Re: Friday Weddings
I've always wanted a friday night wedding and that's what I'm having. Our ceremony doesn't start until 7pm! So it should leave ample time for folks who plan on working.
I've been to a few friday night weddings before and they've been my fav!

Re: Friday Weddings
I'm getting married on a Friday and we didn't pick it because of the money factor. The hall we are marrying in charges the same money for any day but we picked the Friday night because we've enjoyed other Friday night weddings that we've attended. Also, what appealed to me was that my wedding is not sandwiched between any other weddings. My ceremony is at 6:30 PM, cocktail hour at 7 and the reception is scheduled to end at 12. The hall pretty much belongs to me that day! On Saturdays and Sundays, most halls have several weddings scheduled per day.

Re: Friday Weddings
We had a Friday night reception. Our CH started at 7pm. Everyone made it on time. And we had 260 people. I love Friday weddings. You have 2 days to recoup Plus it doesn't ruin your guests weekend plans. Sunday night's can be a little hard. Especially if people live far away.
But no matter what those that matter will be there and not complain and love every second of it!!

Re: Friday Weddings
I'm having my mass at 5PM and cocktail hour at 7PM. What about Good Friday? Kids are usually out of school then. So, if you're interested in a March or April wedding...

Or any other Friday in the summer is a possibility, right?

Re: Friday Weddings
Trying to stay away from summer heat - FH would sweat to death in a tux and we are hoping for an outdoor ceremony weather permitting b/c I won't marry in a church or a temple (I'm Jewish he's Catholic and was married in a church before). Plus my sister's getting married 8/20/06 and although they'll be close either way - I'd like a different theme so I thought September - end of summer looking toward fall sort of thing. Maybe can do more of a fall theme than a summer theme. 4th of July weekend's out too b/c FH has always gone away with his family that weekend since he's a kid - and Lord knows that this tradition is still going on. Plus I know that the family that he goes up to visit will insist we have the wedding on the beach at their house and I don't want to do that.
As for Good Friday, FH's son is being raised 'super catholic' the ex may have an issue with him not going to church on Good Friday (he's in the wedding party obviously) so to keep the 'peace' I'd prefer labor day weekend. I also want to be aware of Spring break fairs for the honeymoon if March/April were on the list.. also I refuse to do april b/c FH's first wedding was April 1997. Bad luck!!!
The halls we've inquired about are seriously less money than Saturday or Sunday. From what I remember: Vineyard Caterers is like approx. $150 pp for Saturday; Sunday was $115 pp; and Friday drops to $85 pp. I'm with those that don't care for having to go to work the next day. If we stick with the wine vineyard idea out of town guests may like having 3 days to enjoy the vineyards, the hamptons and they can still get to NYC if that's what they chose to do. I'm just forcing people to take a vacation - it's a public service

Re: Friday Weddings
I am having a Friday afternoon reception from 1-6...It is the day after Thanksgiving and for the past 2 years, we have been to weddings on that same day, both afternoon weddings and they were the best we have been to so far!!! I agree that the people you want to be there most will be there!!!

Re: Friday Weddings
We had a Friday wedding and it was great. We had just about as many people attend as we had wanted. Just make sure you will actually get the Friday night deal on a holiday weekend. Sometimes they raise the prices on holiday weekends.

Re: Friday Weddings
We're having a Friday night reception. Our mass is at 3:30 but our CH starts at 8:00. We know that people may not be able to make it to the church but that can happen even if it was a Saturday. I like the 8:00 CH cecause people will have time to get home from work, relax, get ready and still h ave enought time to get to the CH.
