Friday weddings?

Friday weddings?

I'm sure it's been asked before-but how does everyone honestly feel about Friday weddings? We're realizing that if we want to set a date in less than 12 months (and in a desirable time of year) we may have to do a Friday, which is ok by me- but the fiance is having issues with the idea.
Your thoughts?
Thanks!

Re: Friday weddings?

FH had a problem with it as well. His issue was that a lot of his family was coming from out of town, so he thought it would be difficult for them to come out. Then there was the issue of a rehearsal dinner. Do you do it on a Thursday night, or not at all?

Once FH saw a RH he fell in love with, but the price was wayyyy too high for our budget, he started seriously considering the Friday night idea and then he was open to it. Fortunately, we found another place that we could afford on a Saturday night.

I honestly think its no big deal. The people who want to come will come (as I always say!). Plus, you'll find the prices are lower for a Friday night AND its more flexible on start times, which is a plus!

I'm having my wedding on a friday and we had no issue with it. We even spoke to close family and friends and not one person objected to it. The people that matter will make it a point to be there!
I've been to many friday night weddings and they were just as good as the saturday night ones!!! (only a little cheaper hah)

All honesty - If it is someone close I never mind but in general it is hard and FH and I were both opposed to a Friday (he even more than I). I don't have the kind of job where it is easy to leave early so generally I can't make it there until 8 (I work in the city) and I miss the CH - My favorite and don't dance as much. But, the people who are close to you will be there on time and have a blast and that is the most important thing - it is your day - that is what matters most!

I should mention-that we're considering a place waaay out east...so his thought is many people will have to take off the whole day or half a day from work and that is an imposition. We've taken time off for weddings-I don't see the big deal.

Is it a small - family and very close friends affair - if so - do it!

Why not consider a Saturday or Sunday day wedding? I am sure there are dates available for those times. Do you have your heart set on a night wedding? I did, so that's why we didn't consider a Saturday or Sunday day, but many people do this and have beautiful weddings.

Re: Friday weddings?

I think the reality these days is 50% of the weddings are on Fridays. My family are all coming in from out of town, yes it is additional days off and some people might find it an inconvenience, but i really think once the festivities get underway - no ones going to even thing about it again! here's the reality, if its going to save you 5k - 10k they HAVE to understand! you want to throw a nice soiree and this is the way to get it done where you want to.
Regarding the rehearsal, we're totally going to do it on Thurs night. there will probably be some people who won't be able to make it, but if not they'll get the cliff notes review :) reality is its not rocket science right :) you will be FINE!!! ENJOY!

No...don't do it. People are tired on Fridays, especially if they have to travel. Sunday is a better option than Friday.

I just went to a wedding on Friday and honestly--it ******. I had to leave work early- which is hard for me to do, then I was rushing to get ready and exhausted by 10pm-- which was when the good music came on and i didn't even feel like dancing. I think a sunday afternoon is a much better option. At least then people can relax the rest of the day before work on monday. JMO

Friday and even Thursday weddings are becoming more popular now. Fridays are fine expecially if its later in the evening. My wed will be on a Friday afternoon at 1pm. Frankly if people want to be at your wed they will make every effort to. Besides they get adequate notice. So what if you have to leave work early.
Its your wed pick whatever day you want to.

Actually I would much rather a Friday night than a Sunday day. Almost all the weddings I have ever been to (and its alot) Have been on a friday, I love ending the week with a big bang, but a Sunday I never even have fun b/c I am thinking about waking up on Monday morning.

Do what you feel most comfortable with, but like someone mentioned in a previous post, over 50% of weddings today are on a Friday night so it obviously isn't THAT bad

I had a Friday wedding. It was exactly what I wanted! Everyone partied and had a great time. I loved night weddings but I would not have paid for a Saturday. So it was the best option for us and I had no problems whatsoever.

Almost all of my cousins who have been married in the last 3 years have all had Friday weddings. Ours is also a Friday! My family loves it as they party the whole weekend! Those who are coming from out of town make arrangements..don't worry about it! And for people that say...oh a Friday wedding..why not sat or sun...it's ONE day out of the year...SUCK IT UP or DON'T COME!!! LOL

Re: Friday weddings?

We felt the same exact way, I usually dont mind Fri. weddings but would have preferred a saturday.... BUT the hall we had our heart set on was booked for the entire season on Sat. nights. SO.... we went with the Day after Thanksgiving!!!! It turns out it was a REALLY good choice, most of my guests are going to be OFF that day, many are coming into town anyway for T-giving, and everyone has 2 days to 'recover' after the reception!!
Good luck with your decision, and I agree with PPs that all the people who love you will make it work, you could pick a Tuesday afternoon, and they'd be there, so DONT WORRY!!!!!

Re: Friday weddings?

FH's 2 cousins - 1 who was married this past July and the other who married last June- both got married on Fridays. The first wedding was too rushed since they had their cocktail hour beginning at 6:30. The sister learned and had it start at 7:00.

The only thing that would bother me would be that not everyone would be able to make it to the church- that definitely happened with both of these weddings.

I think Friday weddings and Sunday weddings are both growing in popularity and norm.

Re: Friday weddings?

with a Friday wedding you may have people not coming for the ceremony, just to the reception. Will you be OK with that?
We decided on a Sunday evening wedding. One place suggested since ours was small (80 people) we could shorten the cocktail hour to say 30-45 mins and start at 6:30 for reception and finish by 10:30 which is a bit earlier since many have work on Monday.
But as people have said about Friday and guests taking off, with a Sunday wedding those who want to party may take Monday off.
Finally if your date is flexible, you might want to look for a holiday weekend and do Sunday which works like a Sat wedding. But only some RHs do their regular Sun rate on holiday wkends. Westbury doesn't; Larkfield Manor does.

Re: Friday weddings?

not everyone will feel the same lol

I am going to a friday wedding on November 2nd, Fh is in the bridal party and since its in LI and ceremony at 2:30, i am taking off that day. Ive known the date for a long time so i made sure to hold off on my days to take off this day. I am looking forward to it, honestly on fridays i am in party mode, the weekend just started and ppl want to have a good time. Even on just a regular friday, FH and I go out quite often, ill come home shower and go right out, once im out im fine

This whole year all we've had is sunday weddings, and i dont mind them but im glad for the change right now. By sunday i am usually in lazy mode since its always my day to just relax, when i get there and if its a good wedding and lots of dancing i get energy...all the sunday weddings we went to ended late, and i wake up at 6am on weekdays so the next day i am beat...Again we just deal with it, but glad to finally change it up a bit...FH will probably also be able to drink more now bc he doesn't have to worry about being at work the next day. Plus we'll still have the whole weekend to enjoy

Just think about the start time for the reception, friday weddings usually CH starts a little bit later to give ppl time to get there

Point is you cant satisfy everybody, just looking at this thread you'll realize this.

Re: Friday weddings?

Honestly, you have to pick a day that is best for you. We chose a Friday night wedding for various reasons, and I have not heard complaints from anyone about it. I have been to numerous Friday night weddings and while I will be the first to admit that it can be a bit stressful rushing around to get ready and get there right after work, it has never lessened the fun I have and I have never even thought about leaving early! I will say that the majority of my guests will not be traveling a large distance to come to my wedding, and perhaps if they were I may have reconsidered the idea. But, those most important to you will be there.
