Friday weddings?

FH had a problem with it as well. His issue was that a lot of his family was coming from out of town, so he thought it would be difficult for them to come out. Then there was the issue of a rehearsal dinner. Do you do it on a Thursday night, or not at all?

Once FH saw a RH he fell in love with, but the price was wayyyy too high for our budget, he started seriously considering the Friday night idea and then he was open to it. Fortunately, we found another place that we could afford on a Saturday night.

I honestly think its no big deal. The people who want to come will come (as I always say!). Plus, you'll find the prices are lower for a Friday night AND its more flexible on start times, which is a plus!

the wedding were going to november 2nd which is on a friday, they're having their RD on wednesday, usually thats how it works from what i know bc its not the first time i hear of it being on a wednesday, i think churches have a mass or something on thursdays

FH's 2 cousins - 1 who was married this past July and the other who married last June- both got married on Fridays. The first wedding was too rushed since they had their cocktail hour beginning at 6:30. The sister learned and had it start at 7:00.

The only thing that would bother me would be that not everyone would be able to make it to the church- that definitely happened with both of these weddings.

I think Friday weddings and Sunday weddings are both growing in popularity and norm.

honestly, even if you have your wedding on a saturday, all your guests WONT go to the ceremony its just the way it is. Your close friends and family will go and thats it, the rest just go straight to the reception. My wedding is on a saturday and i dont even expect all my guests to come to the ceremony

Re: Friday weddings?

I had a Friday wedding, and it was great for us--I prefered a Saturday night, but our reception hall didn't have any Saturday nights available. I would be lying if the old biddies in my family weren't complaining--including my grandmother (who almost had her invite rescinded!) However, once they got there and had the time of their lives, they realized, it's about the celebration, not the day of the week.

Having said that, you also mention that your ceremony/reception will be WAYYYY out east, and if most of your guests are traveling in from other areas of the Island, especially in the summer-time, that may create problems. LIE, eastbound, in summer= NIGHTMARE! So, take that into consideration, and maybe have either an 'earlier' start time, like 2ish or a late one, like 7-7:30ish. If a Saturday night is not an option for you guys, then in this instance, maybe a Sunday twilight might be a better option.

I'm having a Friday night wedding. I think it is totally acceptable to do now!

People have Thursday weddings now.

We origianlly booked a Firday night, but as the date got closer I knew I really wanted a Saturday- so we switched..That being said, IMHO ( and no offense to anyone ) I feel like Friday weddings can seem rushed, I wanted a Saturday where ppl didn't have to take off work or run after work to be there...

No...don't do it. People are tired on Fridays, especially if they have to travel. Sunday is a better option than Friday.

Actually I would much rather a Friday night than a Sunday day. Almost all the weddings I have ever been to (and its alot) Have been on a friday, I love ending the week with a big bang, but a Sunday I never even have fun b/c I am thinking about waking up on Monday morning.

Do what you feel most comfortable with, but like someone mentioned in a previous post, over 50% of weddings today are on a Friday night so it obviously isn't THAT bad

i agree -
my wedding is on a frdiay night - not one person couldnt come because of that and we have people coming from out east (we live in queens) jersey, even new orleans

Same with me, I have 15 guests (includes little kids that are in the BP) coming from California, and they dont even have a problem with the kids missing a few days of school, I have people coming from Florida who have no problem coming up a day or two before and coming to my friday wedding. Like we said, if they matter and care they will make it a point to be there

not everyone will feel the same lol

I am going to a friday wedding on November 2nd, Fh is in the bridal party and since its in LI and ceremony at 2:30, i am taking off that day. Ive known the date for a long time so i made sure to hold off on my days to take off this day. I am looking forward to it, honestly on fridays i am in party mode, the weekend just started and ppl want to have a good time. Even on just a regular friday, FH and I go out quite often, ill come home shower and go right out, once im out im fine

This whole year all we've had is sunday weddings, and i dont mind them but im glad for the change right now. By sunday i am usually in lazy mode since its always my day to just relax, when i get there and if its a good wedding and lots of dancing i get energy...all the sunday weddings we went to ended late, and i wake up at 6am on weekdays so the next day i am beat...Again we just deal with it, but glad to finally change it up a bit...FH will probably also be able to drink more now bc he doesn't have to worry about being at work the next day. Plus we'll still have the whole weekend to enjoy

Just think about the start time for the reception, friday weddings usually CH starts a little bit later to give ppl time to get there

Point is you cant satisfy everybody, just looking at this thread you'll realize this.

i totally agree! friday I'm in party mode also, its like a happy hour wedding! Such a rush when you get out of work and have the whole weekend! sunday just doesn't have that vibe, im tired, lazy and dreading work the next day..so im less inclined to have a good time, and especially drink at a wedding...but either way who ever wants to be there will be!!!!

Re: Friday weddings?

my wedding is a THURSDAY night!

its in july and most of my friends and family are teachers along with my FHs. the ceremony is at the RH so we start at 6. people can get out of work an hour early to get there. and they dont have to party to hard if they want to go to work the next day.

my family and FHs family dont drink. and our friends and bridal party are happy to take off a few days in july. out of town family and friends usually take a week off in july anyway.

it was totally worth it to have $55 less pp to do it on a thurday!

if people want to be at your wedding, it won't be an inconvenience!

we had our wedding on a friday night.... it worked out great & yes, everyone came! ..not to mention we saved a TON of money... Our ceremony was later (5:00pm) because we wanted to do a candlelit ceremony in december....so we did miss out on outdoor photos(which we would've anyway since it was winter). We still GORGOUS photographs...u can see them all in our review...we also did have our reception start untill 8:30...late i know, but people were able to breathe if they didn't take off that day, AND it made the wedding really formal since it was a december evening. ANYWAYS, so if ur going for a friday, the only problem with having a ceremony earlier in the day is that people work. We lucked out and still had a packed out church...my take on it? ur handing out invites months prior...so the people that matter will be there... a good friend of mine had her ceremony on a friday at 3:30 and she still had a packed out church too. It's your wedding...it's ONE day out of the whole year...people will be there - and they will enjoy themselves no matter what. Do what works for you.

Re: Friday weddings?

Fri might not be the best option if you have a lot of OOT guests. We're doing Sunday afternoon because it allows those who want to make it to work the next day to do so (ie: our older family members) and a lot of our friends will hopefully be off for the summer (my law student friends will have finished summer jobs but not started classes yet by that point, and a lot of other friends are teachers who will have summer off). FH's whole family is OOT and are planning to stay over Sunday night.

It also allows OOT guests (half of our BP and FH!) to come out saturday and have time for rehearsal dinner (sat night) and last minute things instead of being rushed Friday.

If you don't have a lot of OOT guests (or the OOT guests dont mind taking off from work) Fri night can be great. What about Saturday afternoon as a cheaper alternative to Sat night?

My best friend got married on a Friday night. Out of 250 people, maybe about 6 said they couldn't take off work.

Ours is a Friday Wedding. My sister had a Friday wedding too and everything was fine.

Our's is a year away. If ppl can make it or find a way to make it thats just fine. You are having a wedding for you and your FH not for everyone else.

Like I always say, if someone does not like it then just dont come, I will have enough ppl at my wedding that want to be there for me and FH.

Plus it will make room for the ppl that do want to come and celebrate our love!

I personally prefer Friday night to Sunday night. Most people have Saturdays off and can stay later.
Sunday nights most people are already worrying about work Monday morning.

1/2 my guests were from NJ and we had a friday wedding out east in long island. The church was packed.

it was a blast and we had the rest of the wknd to recoop.

if people want to be there, they will.. doesnt matter what day it is...

in fact we had relatives telling us they preferred the friday night thing b/c then they had the rest of the wknd free.

ours was on a jewish holiday, so that helped b/c alot of relatives worked in education and were off already.

but like i said, those who want to be there will be there. its your wedding.

We are having our wedding on a friday, like urself it wasnt booked so far in advance so we had to choose between Friday or Sunday. And We chose Friday. I was worried at first but whoever comes comes and thats it- my close family and friends will make arrangements..and if someone cannot make it b/c of getting out of work early one day out of the year or whatever the case is then what can i do., its not really a big deal to leave work early or go from work., etc. I asked the bridal party and they all are taking the day off., they said oh who cares im taking the day off and ill have the entire weekend to recover...it wont kill the weekend.
