I'm sure it's been asked before-but how does everyone honestly feel about Friday weddings? We're realizing that if we want to set a date in less than 12 months (and in a desirable time of year) we may have to do a Friday, which is ok by me- but the fiance is having issues with the idea. Your thoughts? Thanks!

Re: Friday weddings?
Do whatever you want! Its your wedding! I'm Sunday night, and was worried about that, especially because I live in Brooklyn and most of my friends live in Manhattan and we are getting married in Centerport. I polled my friends and family, and they all said they'd either take off Monday or deal with lack of sleep -- but they'll be there.
One of my close friends had her wedding on a Friday night in Philadelphia. It was the best wedding I have ever been to. I took the day off work, and left my apt at 1:00 for a 6:00 wedding. It was supposed to be 3-4 hour drive, I thought leaving 6 hours was plenty of time to get there. The church was 3 blocks from the hotel, which was where the reception was and where almost everyone was staying. I got to the hotel at 5:50 -- soooo much traffic!
I ended up just missing the ceremony by the time I ran up to the room, changed into my dress and ran the 3 blocks like a madwoman. I was soo upset, as I got to the church, everyone was walking out!
A lot of people missed the ceremony, apparently it was one of the worst traffic days ever. My whole point to the long story was that you can't predict what will happen, under the best circumstances people may miss the ceremony, so have the wedding you've dreamed of!
Sorry that was so long and rambling!

Re: Friday weddings?
You should make a thread asking already married brides how their friday night weddings went in terms on timing, how many ppl at ceremony, and reception!!

Re: Friday weddings?
You have to do whats best for you and your guests. I am having a Friday wedding because: A. Its alot cheaper and I can afford to invite more people and B. I figured whoever wanted to be there, will make the effort to go.
I have alot of OOT and it will be cheaper for them to fly in mid week since im getting married 4th of July weekend. Also, Im hoping more people have off on the Friday before the 4th so I wont inconveinence too many people. If i would have done it on a sunday, all the OOT would have had to leave early.
Just ask those who you absolutely want at your wedding their feelings about it and make your decision from there.

Re: Friday weddings?
FH and I tossed around the Fri nite vs Sat day for a while.... but he had his heart set on a night wedding, and we just couldn't afford to do it on a Saturday night. We sent out STDs a year before so that people have plenty of notice and can make the necessary arrangements. The only 'comments' I got were from coworkers, only because they were concerned about a group of them leaving early that day or taking off.
We've accepted that some people won't make it for the ceremony at 6:30, but we're fine with it in general. Plus we get the weekend to hang w/ OOT guests before we leave for the HM on Monday.

I think the reality these days is 50% of the weddings are on Fridays. My family are all coming in from out of town, yes it is additional days off and some people might find it an inconvenience, but i really think once the festivities get underway - no ones going to even thing about it again! here's the reality, if its going to save you 5k - 10k they HAVE to understand! you want to throw a nice soiree and this is the way to get it done where you want to. Regarding the rehearsal, we're totally going to do it on Thurs night. there will probably be some people who won't be able to make it, but if not they'll get the cliff notes review :) reality is its not rocket science right :) you will be FINE!!! ENJOY!
I could not have said it better!! i am also having mine on a friday and my FH's whole side is from OOT. Our thoughts are we're having it in a summer month (which tends to be an easier time for people to have off, especially since the kids are back from college and/or off from school) and who doesn't want an extra excuse to take a friday off in the summer. The people who love and care about you will not mind taking one vacation day. You want to accomodate people but at the same time it is your day and you have to do what is best for you and FH!

Re: Friday weddings?
Our wedding was 9/14 /07 a friday night..and I can honestly say that it was the BEST wedding I've ever been to...still a month later people are raving about it! The feedback about it being on a Friday night was that people loved that they could start their weekend off with a huge party...then they have Saturday to recover..and then they still have Sunday to do what ever they needed. As for any concerns about the attendance at the ceremony...we had a full house! people wanted to be there to share this amazing day with us...we did have a 6:00 start so I know that day time weddings will have lower attendance ...good luck with the planning:)

I should mention-that we're considering a place waaay out east...so his thought is many people will have to take off the whole day or half a day from work and that is an imposition. We've taken time off for weddings-I don't see the big deal.
Why not consider a Saturday or Sunday day wedding? I am sure there are dates available for those times. Do you have your heart set on a night wedding? I did, so that's why we didn't consider a Saturday or Sunday day, but many people do this and have beautiful weddings.
What about the Sunday before Labor day, Columbus Day or Veterans' Day. Some people have off the next day and it easier. Personally, I am tired at the end of a work week and am not crazy about Friday weddings, but if the person was a close friend/relative, I would be there.

Re: Friday weddings?
My wedding is a Friday night, this was an easy choice for us. We have invited 220 people and so far only 13 have declined, so I don't believe Friday's are an issue with most people.

Re: Friday weddings?
at first we wanted a saturday wedding but we wanted to save some money and decided to definitely go with a friday night.....sunday weddings are the worst - especially if they end late - i would prefer a friday wedding over a sunday wedding anyday - so that is why we chose friday. some people dont mind sundays - i hate the idea of it - at least on friday the majority of your guests have off the next day which is nice....our engagement party was on a sunday and A LOT of people left early and did not drink because they had work the next day - at least fridays are the beginning of the weekend and i think more people will be in a 'party' mindset..... our ceremony is at 6:00 and our cocktail starts at 6:30 and ends at 8:00 - we extended it so that hopefully anyone coming from work will make it there in time...good luck with whatever you decide. no matter what you pick the people who are going to be there will be there no matter what day or time you choose!

Re: Friday weddings?
I just went to a friday wedding. It was actually pretty good. It started at 7 so I still had time to get home and go get my hair done and everything. People will go no matter what day you have it.

Re: Friday weddings?
We had a Friday night wedding and it turned out fabulous. Everyone came and had a great time. It's a great way to end the week and if people know the date ahead of time, they usually take the day off. Not to mention, it's a little less expensive to get married on a Friday night than Saturday night!

I had a Friday wedding...and many of the guest did take off the day....or left work early...It also helped that I got married at the hall..and the ceremony started at 8:00 p.m. It turned out great..when I see the video everyone was dancing, drinking..and having a great ole time..

Re: Friday weddings?
we got married on a Friday afternoon in June...many people stayed in the Hamptons & made a weekend of it. I made sure to pick a time so that they weren't all stuck in traffic getting to it!

I'm having my wedding on a friday and we had no issue with it. We even spoke to close family and friends and not one person objected to it. The people that matter will make it a point to be there! I've been to many friday night weddings and they were just as good as the saturday night ones!!! (only a little cheaper hah)
We had exactly the same experience! Everone loves the idea of having a few days to recover and travel home.....

Re: Friday weddings?
We had a Friday wedding and it was perfect. I had about35 guests all from out of town and they all still came. Out of 285 invites I only had 30 nos. Pretty good numbers considering a lot of my guests are from out of the country.

Re: Friday weddings?
I'm having a Friday night wedding. I don't think that there is anything wrong with it. I've been to Friday, Saturday and Sunday night weddings, and I enjoyed them all. Personally, FH and I knew that we couldn't afford a Saturday night, so it was between Friday and Sunday.
Fridays - some people would have trouble making the ceremony. Sundays we thought people would leave the party early because of work the next morning.
We went with Friday after figuring that the people that matter will take off on Friday or leave work early and enjoy the day with us. Those who can't take off work will just come to the reception to celebrate, and we're okay with that.

Re: Friday weddings?
I am having a Friday night wedding and I never, ever regretted that decision (and I am very, very excited!!).
First and most important thing - you can't worry about everyone else and what they will think. There is bound to be a person or two who don't like that your wedding is on a Friday night. There is also always going to be someone who doesn't like your flowers, your dress, your bridesmaid dress, your invitations, your reception hall and maybe even your fiance My point is, this is your day. The day that you and your fiance, and I'm sure your mom , get to plan and enjoy. Do not worry about anyone else. Picking the day is only step one.
Ok, another thing about Friday night weddings that people may not realize. Everything is fresh. It's the first wedding of the week. The room is fresh, the servers are relaxed and the weekend has just begun. It's friday night, cocktail hour is like Happy Hour, that is how I think of it. My wedding is starting fairly late. Ceremony at 7:30, cocktail hour from 8pm - 9pm and Reception from 9pm-1am. Everyone will have an amazing time and then have the rest of the weekend to relax
Do a Friday. You wont regret it.
ps. I think I may do my rehearsal dinner the week before. I should figure that out - my wedding is in less than seven week!! haha!

Re: Friday weddings?
Our wedding was a friday and SOOO many people had an opinion on it-no one would show up, its harder for out of towners, etc. But guess what-in the end we had MOST of our guests at the church at 3 in the afternoon and everyone was there. I think that people are always going to have a difference of opinion on what day THEY prefer-but really the choice is yours. The people who should be there WILL BE THERE! Regardless of what day it is

Re: Friday weddings?
i knew i wanted a saturday wedding and so did FH....but my engagement party will be on a friday and we are having it at 8pm so it is a little later...
most people unless they are really close friends family and part of the bridal party will not lose a day of work to go to a wedding or party because think about how many days they get and perhaps they go on vacations or what not....
so some guest perhaps will not go to the ceremony or may miss part of the cocktail hour because of working late getting ready and travel time....
i would perfer a sunday wedding instead of a friday wedding even though there is work the next day it is just better then rushing to get to the wedding.....
but some people are even getting married on wednesdays and thursdays lately so it all depends on what you and your fh want
remember it is your wedding and you can not always please EVERYONE all the time during the process
the important people near and dear to you and your fh will make every effort to be at your wedding....
