Do you ladies feel you have a lot of friends, normal amount or barely any? Do you prefer quantity over quality or vice versa?

I ask this question because I have moved around so much and have found that besides my sister, only 2 of my girlfriends through the years have remained. It became very apparent I had only a couple girlfriends when I was making my bridal party and made me sad :(

Re: Friends

I know exactly what you mean! I started to feel this way when I was thinking about my bridal party too. I have my two sisters and his sister and thats pretty much it. Ever since FH and I got engaged my best friend has barely been speaking to me and I don't know what her problem is... it's really sad because I don't really have anyone else to talk to around here since a lot of my friends have moved off the island. And being in my line of work (I'm a nanny) its impossible to meet new people.

But all that being said, I would much rather have a select few great friends than a lot of superficial ones. It's definitely quality over quantity. I'm really hoping my BFF will come around soon...

My BFF just moved to North Carolina and my other BFF lives in Farmingdale and is also engaged and getting married in October so she is super busy with her life and I really only have my sister (who lives 5 minutes from me) but it isn't the same as having a group of girls. That is so funny because I, too, am a nanny so I definitely understand what you are going through in terms of meeting new people.

In reference to your best friend, is it possible she is jealous?

I know exactly what you mean, my BFF moved to Delaware over the summer so it's hard enough as it is and now she's being really weird. I hate to say it but I think its possible that she is jealous. It's strange but in the last year or so I had the feeling that we were in this weird competition with each other and she was always asking when FH was going to propose and saying that she thinks it'll happen for her first. I honestly didn't care because for me it wasn't a race but now I think I ruffled her feathers.

Sometimes I wish I had a big group of friends too. We need a nanny support group! lol! How old are the kids you watch? I watch fifteen month old twin boys, I adore them, they are just the cutest little babies.

Oh no :( That stinks. Its unfortunate but it happens :( It would make me question the friendship because it shouldn't be like that.

I just moved from Massapequa to Selden and left my position there because the commute was a bit rough. He was a little baby! 6 months when I left. I am on the hunt though.

awww a little bitty baby!! Sittercity and care.com are a great starting point if you're not already on those two sites. That commute would be terrible to do everyday. I got really lucky and found a family that is literally right around the corner from where we live so I make three turns and I'm there!

I'd def say that sounds like jealousy from your BFF. one of my good friends ever since me and my BFF both got engaged she's been weird and barely speaking to me. us 3 grew up together so I understand to her it's like everyone but me has someone. at the same time she doesn't help her situation by basically never going out. I mean guys don't just show up at your house magically lol.

Re: Friends

sometimes I feel like I have a good normal size group of friends then sometimes I can feel insanely lonely. esp around the holidays when everyone is with their families. I'm so jealous of anyone with sisters/brothers. Fh works like crazy around the holidays since he's in retail. and my dad who we live with works like crazy too since he's in catering. then my mom & her whole family live down south.

I definitely don't have many friends. Sure I have 100 + people I could go 'hang out' with on a rainy day but people who will be there? I have about 3 girls and one lives in florida. I have no sisters and FH has 1 sister that is very excited and loves DIY so I'm excited for that. My one best friend is so happy and excited I was actually very shocked. But my other one is like ok cool and doesn't really care. But she also is very unemotional so I expected that. I really wasn't planning on having a MOH because both these last two girls are my best friends, one from childhood and one I grew into an adult with in college and we live near one another on LI now but she's less interested so I gave the job to my childhood friend. Haven't told the other one yet though! Curious for her reaction being that she seems uninterested.

I don't have tons of friends..I keep in touch with a handful of people from high school. One of my biggest stresses when we got engaged was that I wasn't going to have enough friends to invite, but my FH has tons. I soon realized it's not all about how many friends I have at my wedding :) besides, his friends have become my friends anyway. Luckily I have a large family, only one girlfriend in my bridal party. I'm even iffy about her being in the party since she lives in Arizona..also her boyfriend has a job where they travel a lot. I'm pretty nervous, but I'm sure it'll be fine!

I used to feel out of place when I would talk to people who seemed like every single person they knew was 'a really good friend' of theirs. But you have to wonder how people like that define 'really good friend.' I'd much rather have only a few really close friends who know my dirty laundry and what-not.

I really do think it's true when they say that a person replaces half their friends every 7 years. For me, I've found that to be true. As time goes on, you either lose touch or outgrow certain people, and then even people you've lost touch with can still come back into your life. That's happened to me, too.

I'm very grateful for the friends that I have, whether it's a lot by somebody else's standards or not. I also consider FH's friends and spouses to be my friends.
