It was funny my friend and I got engaged a couple of weeks apart and our rings are just about the same there are some difference but not many basically the same.. No jealousy here.

danigrl: I think you are right....

I dont see why people have to use the size of a ring as how much that person loves them. I think thats silly. If he gave me a ring with a whistle on it as my e-ring I wouldnt care; its what the mening is not the ring itself

i am writing this under a different name since some of my friends are on this site.

some of my friends not only compare carats but they compare color!

i have one friend that always tells anyone about her ring the color and clarity. like we give a c r a p! yes, i may not have a 'colorless' stone, but it is perfect to me!!

None of my friends are really single, and the only ring I really compared mine to was my sisters when picking mine out..(I didnt want to get one too small).. So she has 1.17, I have 1.07.. she has D color, I have a yellower color J... Obviously I didnt try to beat her, or anyone else out nor would I want to.. No one yet has asked me my ring color(and 99% of the time it looks as white as the better colors)..and sparkles alot

Has anyone seen the engagement ring wars that go on over on the knot?? It's soooo pathetic! Girls with smaller diamonds go off on girls with larger stones saying they are shallow and materialistic....then the girls with the larger stones get their stabs in....that's part of the reason I spend ALL my free time here now....a lot less bickering and much more fun!

Actually, no one has asked me the 4 C's Questions. I absolutely love mine!! It's not too big or not too small. Just right!! I was telling my co-worker a story about my friend who had a bigger stone than me and my FH noticed and said 'Oh, she has a bigger stone then you' I continued with my story and told my co-worker that I mentioned to my FH 'HOney, Size does not matter' As I said this, a co-worker was walking by. We started laughing because I am sure they got the wrong impression of my FH.

I hate it when people find out I'm engaged and the first thing they do is grab my ring. It's so intrusive. Now, I love my ring, but that's not the point.

Why not ask me about my future husband or how happy I am instead?

Guess I'm lucky I haven't gotten much of this kinda talk & what I may have gotten,, I don't remember! Maybe I blocked it out But I'm always getting compliments - maybe they're talking about me behind my back or something lol

FH is really the biggest critic cuz he wishes he could've gotten something bigger but if he did - I'd be afraid to walk the streets!! Its perfect just the way it is.

My aunt the first thing she did was grab my hand and inspect my ring like she was appraising it. I was waiting for her to pull out that thing jewelers have when they are looking at diamonds. She was counting every side stone, inspecting the prongs, turning it to see it from every angle.

I finally said to her, yes its real, its mine, its a diamond ring, its on my finger, is their anything specific you would like to know

I dont think the size of the diamond matters at all. Our guys love us, and wanted to give us something to show us that they want to spend the rest of thier lives with us. Our guys are in different positions financially, and are unique in personality and style, and I think that our rings reflect that. I would rather have a man get down on his knee with a life saver and profess his undying love for me than an a$$hole with money to be like 'heres some money go buy yourself a ring'. Like Chippa, I also have my mothers diamond passed on to me, and I have loved it ever since I was a little girl. We were out looking for diamonds before I knew I was getting her diamond, and I refused to let him spend a lot of money on the ring. Considering he makes PA salary, a ring I would have normally picked out (and the high cost of diamonds anyway) would have probably came out to half his yearly salary. I would NEVER make the man I love go broke because I want a huge ring that I probably cant wear to work, or wont wear after a few years. (I have noticed that many women stop wearing their E-Ring after a while). Everyones ring is beautiful in thier own way, and if a woman is convinced that her man is in love with her SOLELY on the size of her diamond, than she will find herself very lonely one day..We are all very lucky to have the wonderful men we do, and we will all be very happy in the future whether our rings are 0.3 or 3.0 karats.

imagin.. i totally agree with you.. I picked out and he bought the ring while he was still in collegeIf I wanted to I could have gone above the budget... but we are saving so that when we get married we will be able to buy a house right away..(isn't having a place to live more important?) and many girls do stop wearing theyre rings(after that amount of money i plan to keep wearing mine)

when my sweetie proposed the only thing I thought was omg and when he put the ring on my finger I thought holy s*** its huge! Its only a little over a carat, but to me it was huge and beautiful. the point is we were getting married and we loved each other! it could have been my birthstone, it would not have mattered.

michelle that's so funny
i thought the same thing holy ****
and then i hit him in the shoulder

any way i think its okay to ask how big
i'm curious i like to know not to compare just interested that's all

i have four friends that are engaged i was the last one the rings range from 1 - 2+ ct.
we never compared the size we love each others rings. each ring is perfect for that person and none of us wish other wise

3 of them are getting married exactly two months about from one other
july
sept
nov

i never heard any comparisons from any of us
and we are all in each others bridal partys

Some people buy things like huge rings and jewelry to look like they have money, when they really can't afford it. I think it gives them the confidence they don't have. It's sad. I know I sometimes fall into this. I try not to though.

It snowballs into wanting more and more of what you don't need. Just my opinion.

Re: friends outdoing your ring? (vent)

I found out at my E-party that my FSIL has the SAME ring and she tried telling me that hers was BIGGER - but FBIL told FH otherwise What does it matter - the ring should be important b/c a special person gave it to you - NOT - b/c it is bigger or sparklier than someone elses

My DH could of proposed with a cigar band and I would have proudly showed it off!!!! Who cares how big it is? It is what it symbolizes!!!!! Show off your rings proudly

Re: friends outdoing your ring? (vent)

My cousin and I are the same age and have always been neck and neck on everything except that a few years ago she 'pulled ahead' of me, so to speak, by getting married, having beautiful babies, becoming successful and rich - lives in a huge house, drives a Lexus blah blah blah....and she'll be the first one to tell you what her mortgage is, how much her car cost etc. The one anomaly to this was the she and her husband married very young (she was 20) and all he could afford at the time was a .25 center stone. Fine, it was beautiful, she loved it, happy, wore it for years.

I flit off to New York, live the broke Bohemian life, have a ball doing it, but in her eyes I had failed because materialistically I wasn't as rich as she was. I was, however, MUCH happier than her.
So, I got engaged last year, got my pretty ring and the side stones and some evil little part of me said in my head 'Now who failed? My ring is bigger.' It was crappy and evil of me to think that, right? I show up at her house and first of all she doesn't even ask to see it, but when my Mom brings it up, she looks at it and says all the right things and then.......

she holds up her hand to show off this big fat honkin 4 carat grandaddy that her husband had made for their 10th anniversary....and her original .25 is now a side stone in the new ring Pooh on me LOL.
