well, in MHO, I rather have the house and then the kids. If you rent, you sort of lose that money. When you have a house, you have something to sell incase you need the money for your family. I am def. waiting to have a house before kids....
Thats the way I've always felt but I dont want to be a 35 year old first time father where if I wanna play sports with my son I'll be able to and not have to worry about being to old to do it... I know my father slowed down a lot when he hit 40 and we didn't get to play as much...
Plus its weird because in my job I will have the ability to retire at the age of 40 with full pension and benefits for the rest of my life.... But if we have kids I'm not going to be able to do that because if we wanna send them to a private school or dance lessons, or baseball teams or whatever, I'm going to have to be working to pay for that... In that sense I dont wanna have kids at 30 because then at the time I can retire it'll be time for HS and College and there is no way I'll be able to retire...
You know, my FH is going to be 32 this year, 33 when we get married. So we'll probably be having kids when he's 35ish. Things are not what they used to be and alot of people are waiting to have children until their mid to late 30s...
ETA: There is no perfect time to start a family. Everyone I know already had kids and they always say that you will always wish you had more money when you kids were born b.c you want to give them so much. And that if you wait until the perfect time that you will never do it...

I agree with this...while it may not be ideal to have kids a little later in life it's important to be secure.
This is probably why we will move down south....it's just a easier way of life in a lot of ways...

Re: Frustrated
Well everything is reversed in my case. I have a child from a previous relationship and FH has one too. We decided to use our money to buy a house rather than have a wedding. I was affraid of overspending on our wedding and then not having enough to buy a house. The first year is the hardest! Once we got on our feet we started saving for our wedding.

i'm going to somewhat agree with you. for the past years i've been saying i'm heading down south BUTi finally had a reality check when family who lives down there spoke to me about this. 1 your income is much lower and while the houses may be cheaper, cost of living is not. 2 education is just not the same down there as it is up here and 3 living is not the same down there...f.ast paced compared to slow paced.
these are the tradeoffs you have to think of and they are major ones.
plus, who's to say you are guarenteed a job down there in your field? I know I am not but FH is.

Re: Frustrated
Welcome to living in NY or rather the northeast in general. My parents rented and are still renting sometimes it is just not meant to be to live in a house then you make the best of the situation. Even though my parents rented we always lived a nice life. I would love to own a home but living here I dont see it possible anytime soon. As for having kids when God blesses me with them I will be ready no matter what.
