FUN POLL! whats the story with your engagement ring?
My engagement ring is a family heirloom ring. Besides the fact that it is BEAUTIFUL, it has a lot of meaning b/c it belonged to someone that FH loved very much, and before that, to someone else. I feel very honored to wear it.
My engaged friend has a gorgeous modern engagement ring....a sapphire instead of a diamond. She chose it...they bought it together. I think its one of the most beautiful peices I've ever seen.
Another friend of mine was totally surprised...her husband bought hers without her knowing at all... aside from being beautiful, its special b/c its all his taste and he designed it just for her. I'm wondering about the stories behind everyone else's rings? Its fun b/c everyone has a different story!

He looked for weeks..>I only told him princess cut but I didnt even know he was going to do it..>I still thought it was a long way off...he got me a three stone

We went shopping for it together within a month of us dating ....but I was scared and niether was he..I guess thats when we both knew it was serious. In any case, I originally watned a princess cut with a platinum band...but when we went shopping I choose something totally different..go figure

i LOVE the 3 stones.....If I were to chosse.....that is what I would probably pick. I bet it looks amazing on your finger.

Your ring is amazing......I think that when you try them on, and see what actually looks fabulous on your hand, you change your mind from what you originally thought. I saw your ring in album and it is MAGNIFICENT.

my aunt works in a jewelery store - we were in it about a year before we got engaged (i needed somehting fixed), and we were browsing, and I saw it (i love pear shaped, but they are so hard to find). I said, wow what a gorgeous ring - and FH said jokingly, i'll buy it for you right now. I said no way, its too expensive.
well, a year later (he ended up buying it about 6 months later, changed the setting) when he proposed, I opened it and was like, OMG is that the same ring???
so i did pick it out - but I didnt know i did

Mine was a total surprise and I never mentioned what I would like.
He did research first on-line by himself so that he would know what to look for. He even schooled me on the 3 'c's.' Then he spent a while looking for a jeweler that he could work with and once he found one he worked with them to find the setting and the diamond.
Without my telling him anything, he got me a princess cut flanked by two trillions--it's absolutely beautiful! And it means even more because he did all by himself

I was completely surprised, I had NO CLUE what was in that box. I love it and couldn't have done a better job. Hes Awesome!

sorry to crash great thread!!
i voted...heirloom! It was my grandmothers and before that, it was my grandfather's aunt (ya follow). FH took it to get appraised (i had NO idea) he was expecting it to be like 50 years old...nope 105!!!! it's an original Edwaridan Era ring whatever that means!! I love it!

i like every girl in the world always look at the rings on display at the store windows in the mall and i fell in luv with this unique ring i showed it to him and to my surprise he luv it too...i just didnt kno when i would get...heres my ring!!!!! all 24 lil diamonds on the band and my center stone..luv it

We went shopping together so he can get an idea of what I liked....I picked out 4 rings thats I really liked and he picked the one that I really wanted.....so it was some what of a surprise.

Well...I knew we were going to be getting engaged and I sent FH a bunch of pics of rings I liked. I stopped by a jeweler with my mom one day and tried a bunch on and HATED all the ones I had sent FH pics of. I ended up falling in love with something totally diffferent. I dragged FH back to the jeweler and showed him the one I fell in love with. I knew he wouldnt be able to find it anywhere else and I also knew that I wouldnt be happy with anything else. He bought the setting on the spot (although he wasnt too happy that I had picked it out without him).
The diamond was a different story. I told him only that I wanted a round cut diamond. He went to his own jeweler to pick it out and I never knew about it or saw it til the day he proposed.

I have the engagement ring that my Dad gave my Mom 46 years ago, I wanted it and knew FH had it but he had it for a little while before he popped the question. Love that I have this ring that my Dad gave to my Mom....so meaningful to me!
