FUN POLL! whats the story with your engagement ring?

My engagement ring is a family heirloom ring. Besides the fact that it is BEAUTIFUL, it has a lot of meaning b/c it belonged to someone that FH loved very much, and before that, to someone else. I feel very honored to wear it.
My engaged friend has a gorgeous modern engagement ring....a sapphire instead of a diamond. She chose it...they bought it together. I think its one of the most beautiful peices I've ever seen.
Another friend of mine was totally surprised...her husband bought hers without her knowing at all... aside from being beautiful, its special b/c its all his taste and he designed it just for her. I'm wondering about the stories behind everyone else's rings? Its fun b/c everyone has a different story!

FH has tried in the past to pick jewelry (not so good) He has a panic attack if anyone buys him anything (GC for everything) So we went all over the world trying to find a few rings that I like so he could surprise me. NOTHING So I have a client that owns a jewelers in Huntington Village so I went in and described what I wanted nothing difficult but we couldn't find anything. So I ended up having it made now everywhere I look they're all over the place. Bastids where were they last year when we couldn't find it. I have pics in my album but u can't really see all the detail. I LOVE IT.

My ring was a total surprise because it was his mother’s ring. Needless to say I was honored and taken aback that she felt I deserved to wear her engagement ring.

FH scammed with my friend to see what setting i liked (he had already bought the diamond)....after i found one i loved online & went to see it in the city...the jeweler had to have it made to fit my diamond...so FH got in touch with the jeweler & told him NOT to call me when it was done...so i thought my jeweler was a bad vendor..haha...then we went away..and he proposed & i got my beautiful ring! Then things all made sense...haha.

mine is almost a little bit of everything... the stone was bought with the stone that used to be his mom's (it went through 2 divorces and was a cut we didn't like so it HAD to be sold!). he surprised me with it in a temporary plain setting when he proposed and told me our friend ( a jewelry designer was gonna work with me/us to design and make the ring i loved. once the ring was made, my stone was reset into it.
i do have my grandmother's engagement ring though, it just doesn't act as my engagement ring (i wear it on my right hand).

My ring is a little of both - the main diamond was my grandmothers ( a gift from my grandfather for their 30h wedding anniversary) and my FH and my mom went together and had it reset. And it was def. a surprise to me - I knew we were going to get engaged sometime, but had no idea when!

Vinny had an idea of what I liked based on my taste-- like classic and traditional. So he chose a round stone (which is exactly what I wanted so that was great!!) and then gave it his own style by choosing the side-stones which are teardrop (pear shaped) diamonds... It is set in platinum and that was that!!
So it was a big surprise for me but I pretty much knew that he knew to at least make the center stone round b/c that is just my taste.
Pics don't really do it justice but hey, it's the best I have Vin took the pics-- and they are the best ones that I have of the ring but it's so hard to get an idea of what it really looks like unless you see it in person-- so you can see the sparkle and how clear the diamonds are- they are very good quality. I'm so very proud of him for working so hard (and for so long) to get me this

We looked at a few rings together just for fun when we knew we were going to get engaged soon. I showed him the emerald cut which is what I wanted and he loved it. He also really liked it in the three stones.
We ended up planning a last minute trip which is where he decided he wanted to propose but he only had a week to get the ring. he went all over looking for something he liked and couldnt really find anything. then on the last possible day he was able to shop he ended up getting my ring.
the funny thing about the story is that the morning he was buying the ring, he was supposed to be picking me up at my friends house in NJ. I thought he was driving down from his sisters house upstate so I kept calling him over and over and he wasn't answering his phone. I was worried that something happened so I kept calling. He told me he was upstate so I wouldn't think he was buying the ring. After he gave me the ring I asked how he got it and all he could say was that I kept calling him over and over!!

I designed my ring, and he had his uncle make it. I LOVE flower shaped rings, so it has two flowers on the side, blue topaz(Favorite stone too) in every other stone, diamonds in the other, and a center diamond. It also has three stones going down the sides, alternating topaz/diamond. He did above and beyond even my design! It came out AMAZING! He gave him an AMAZING deal too!! It's worth a rediculous amount, but he got it so cheap cause he used to work in the diamond, jewelry business. He's so cute too. Three months before he was going to ask me, he told me he was talking to his uncle about it, but at the same time, he'd tell me over and over he didn't have the money, so I'd have to wait until he did. He threw me off so many times!!! I really didn't expect it at all! Sometimes I did, but then he'd say something and I'd be all, 'HE's never going to ask me!!!' Pics do not do it justice! It's so unique, that's why I love it!!

Mine is a mix...we went shopping (just browsing) together and I showed him a couple of settings that I liked. I showed him the one I really LOVED...i walked around with a picture of it in my wallet for a year and when he finally asked it was the exact setting that I wanted!!!!
