fun topic

Original post by EmberLynn

My FH and I were watching a 4 and 6 yr old the other day. We had gotten into the conversation of children and baby names. I figured it would be fun for all of us to say at least the names we want to name our fist daughter and son.

: Boudiga Morgain
Dante Alexander

Boudiga is the Celtic goddess of Victory and Morgain the Celtic war.

Dante a famous italian writer, who mentioned my FH family name in his book Dante Inferino. And Alexander was the name my FH birth mother gave him.

Scary thought I kinda like the name Katrina. It is pretty although this is a VERY tragic storm and I wish nothing but the best for all those who have suffered!

Me too.. love that name.

Tough call here. Since my father just passed, and his name is Victor, we will name our first child for him in Hebrew AND in English. Jewish people name after the deceased. They typically try to find a name that has the same initial as the person who passed away but sometimes that letter is just hard to deal with like 'V'.

If our first child is a girl, her name will be Victoria but she will be called 'Tori' - I am not a fan of 'Vicki.' I do not like ANY 'V' names for boys. Virgil, Van, Vance and Vincent aren't options for our child. We will then pick the English name of our choice and Dad's hebrew name.

FH's last name (WHICH I AM HAPPILY TAKING) is very Russian sounding and to use the name 'Victor' would have our child sounding like a Vodka or KGB. I just do not have the heart to do that to a kid. I mean my grandfather was Russian too but our last name is not Russian.

The honor of naming after the deceased actually lies within the Hebrew name so regardless, the child will be named for Dad with its first name and named for somone in FH's family for the middle name.

If, and after baby-sitting for the past week, I do mean if we have kids . . .

Alexandra Giovanna (Giovanna for his dad)

or John Joseph III (guess for who???).

I am wholly opposed to the name John (FH doesn't use it outside of work), or anything starting with a 'J' because my nieces and nephews are:
Jennifer, Joshua, Jeffrey, Jeremy, Jeanette, and Joseph.

I really want Zachary, but the 'y' on the end does NOT go with the last name.

Well, it's tough to say this right now, but we're not wavering (I've wanted this name for years and years):
: Katrina Leigh

(I actually clipped something out of the NY Times yesterday about girls named Katrina in case I have a girl and she hears about the tragedy some day.)
