Furniture

Ladies, FH and I are moving in together come June and we have basically 0 furniture! I have a bed and a dresser. And not much else. I dont want to buy crap because I feel like we will just have to replace it in 2-4 years and then we end up spending more money. However, we can't afford pottery barn and ethan allen. Can people give me their input if they know anything about couches at jcpenny vs. ikea vs. Jennifer convertables? We def want a pullout. Also what about kitchen tables at jcpenny and ikea? Anyone know about the quality? And has anyone gotten anything at that bobs discount furniture place- the one with the really annoying commercials? Can anyone recommened anyplace else with good stuff and not bad prices?

TIA!!!!

Re: Furniture

i furnished my apartment of three years with all ikea furniture. everything from dining room to living room, and bedroom furniture. you name it, i've probably bought it from ikea. the quality of furniture is ok. i don't plan on keeping the furniture when i move in with my FH. it's good for short term use, like for a few years. you'd probably find nicer stuff somewhere else.

ohhh ya I forgot about target and pier one. Is Macys expensive for furniture? (I want to spend under $1000 for a pullout).

Re: Furniture

I bought an awesome dining room table at ikea. It was like 350 dollars, but it comes with a leaf so it can open to 13 feet long. I think its great for now while were young and poor.

the link won;t work but its the bjursta table. I like Ikea cause i hate paying so much for shipping on other stuff.

macys can definitely get expensive....i bought the furniture awhile ago so it would be paid off before the wedding....i opened a macys card and i waited for one of their sales with deferment (no interest for a certain time period....for me it was six months which was awesome) but i see it as an investment bc its great quality furniture that will last and if it doesnt they come and fix it or they send out a brand new one no charge for life!

Re: Furniture

I think Ikea is the best place, their style are updated( I am in the funriture field and they catch up very quickly) and their price is not that bad.
The only problem is, once you assemble them, do not take them apart, after a few try, they wont' last long)
but if you plan to stay in 1 place for few years, Ikea is the best!

Re: Furniture

I have a lot of Ikea stuff, it's pretty good - entertainment center, small tables, dining table.
I started buying more 'grown up' furniture and found overstock.com a great resource - most of it is well made, solid wood, and shipping is either $2 or free! So far I have 2 dressers, 2 nightstands and a 8x10 rug from there and I'm happy with everything. Just stalk it for a while, their stock is always changing.

Happy furniture hunting!

Re: Furniture

ikea i would hit for bedroom furniture... i've had mine for about 4 yrs!! its gone from the city to queens.... and still in good condition...

macys, levitz, raymor flannigan for couches.. you can catch some good sales around the holidays... easter/passover is coming up..

i was just at bobs.. its a mix between ikea and ?? it was okay but colors i found to be limited...

the place has nice furniture too... theres a store in farmingdale and by roosevelt field... maybe be a little more $ than ikea but quality is great...

target on line has great dining sets... we bought one and the table cracked and with no problem they sent us a new tabletop(think the cracking was my fault!! )

hth!!!

Re: Furniture

Just furnished FH's coop....Levitz ( bedroom set), Raymour & Flanigan (entertainment set), Jennifer Convertibles (couch)..GREAT stuff! We decided we wanted to buy furniture that would last.

A lot of the stores have 0% interest for 12 months which is great! A better idea would have been to open a credit card with 0 interest but we individually opened 3 credit cards and will close them once they're paid off.

PLEASE, look up Jennifer Convertibles on the web first. They have literally HUNDREDS of complaints about the quality of their furniture! Basically, what's in the showroom is not the same quality as what actually arrives at your front door.

We bought a queen sleeper sofa, loveseat, and queen size mattress & headboard/footboard from Levitz in Carle Place over the summer. It was under $3k for everything, and it's beautiful & very comfy, and very durable material. Their furniture is very reasonable, and they have a ton to choose from. They always have sales on 3 day holiday weekends too.

Re: Furniture

We got our coach at Big Lots...we got a really good deal for it. We also got some end tables from Target. We have also received some furniture from my grandparents (a pull out couch) and my FILs (leather recliner).
