Future In-Laws from Heck --UPDATE

How do i deal with my FSIL?

She's a complete psycho. She hates me to the point of not letting me near her baby, for no reason. She comes up with all of these reasons, but she never liked me. The first thing she said to me when we met was 'I always thought my brother wasy gay.'..

And then she and her husband decided that they hated me and we were at this luncheon together with FMIL and FSIL approached me and was like 'I don't like you..' and enumerated her supposed reasons. I listened to her, we spoke some, etc. That very night her busband started screaming cause I was near their kid (apparently he's afraid I'm going to teach his then 6 month old baby to be a vegetairan...no joke..that was the reason he gave...and that would make me a 'bad influence')..So i left crying..later on I told FH about the convo I'd had with his sister and I said she really confronted me. He mentioned to her that I felt confronted and ever since then she won't talk to me and she cites that as the reason. Apparently she was trying to befriend me with that conversation!!!

I send her kid gifts (which she keeps, go fig), and I sent holiday cards to them, but I'm going to stop. it keeps becoming one little thing after another. She said she wants to have a relationship with FH< but needs time to accept me. FH told her that if she can;t accept me then he won't talk to her either. His family thinks that's babyish. I just don't know what to do. She thrives on making my life miserable. She found my online journal and took an entry that was about FH and sent it to her entire family, claiming that it was about someone else I was cheating on FH...she claimed she was trying to helo him. If she were, woudlnlt she have spoken with HIM about it? It was so ridicuous. FH gets a call from his parents and THEY'RE accusing me of cheating... Anyway, they understood and it all blew over with his parents, but she's still psycho. AHHHHHH... Sorry so long..thanks for letting me vent.

ETS:
So now, about a week ago. FSIL calls up FH and says she wanbts to make up and she's 'Sorry for whatever she did.' And he told her she has to know what she's sorry for and he told her some of the things she's mad about, and she said she just doesn't want to fight. She's acting all nice now. A complete 180. FH is eating it up. he wants to believe her b/c it's his sister, but I really don't trust her. And now I feel like, I'm forced to associate with her now and forgive her, or else *I* look like the bad one now, cause she's making an effort...nevermind all of the times I made an effort...UUGGGHHHHH

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!

all i can do is send you hugs...and i am not being rude but there are always 2 sides to every story. what is her side of the story on WHY she does not like you when she confronted you!

i am so sorry honey..,,,she sounds like a jealous person....did she ever have a VERY CLOSE relationship with your FH???

some people say 'you marry the individual', i am of the camp 'you marry the family'...

unless your FH either separates himself from his family and/or sticks up for you relentlessly, you are in for a life of hurt and disappointment. no family is perfect, but this type of behavior needs to be stopped. try to figure out with your FH how to improve the situation one way or another...

I feel for you!

My FH and I don't speak with his older brother (and his wife) for similar reasons. According to him (straight from his mouth when FH confronted him) he never liked me from the start. Oh well - their loss. Like I said we don't speak with them at all and as far as I'm concerned that's fine. FH was the one to make that decision and I know his family thinks that I have a lot to do with it but it was 100% his decision. You can only deal with so much garbage. I don't know what her issues are but first and foremost remember that you are not to blame and you do not deserve to be treated this way. Considering my own situation (and learning from it) I would suggest talking to your FH and perhaps sitting with his sister and her husband to try to discuss the problems. Make a list and try to work through the things you have listed...her reasons and your feelings. You ahve to try to address it before you can even think about cutting ties.

I'm sorry you are going through this. Some people are just bitter and angry and you can never get through to them. It sound like you have the support of your FH which is what really matters. I wish you luck.
Just a little advice-be careful what you post here. Its good to vent but I would be careful, especially if people know you come on this site. You don't want her to use this as further evidence against you with the family.

I've had my own issues his family but it can help to talk it out. But my problems were not as indepth as yours. I was more worldly than my FH who was a mamams boy at one point.

Not saying it can work a miracles but it can give you the dfinitive of whether you should even keep trying.

Re: Future In-Laws from Heck -- Anyone else? (VENT)

Thanks so much for the hugs!

There's SO much more I could tell you! AHH

FH defends me as much as he can, which has been a lot. I mean, he stopped talking to her...

FMIl hates it as much as I do. She hates seeing her children separated. She thinks her daughter is mostly at fault, but she also thinks that FH should still talk to her, even tho she understand why he doesn't. She defends her daughter, and says 'that's the way she is' and 'don't take it personally'. They act like I'm asking for special treatment, when all I want is respect, something this girl knows nothing about.

Last year we spent a lot of $$ on her for baby gifts (this was before there was feuding) and she never sent us a thank you or even called us to thank us, and she's basically always been bnoxious, so at the last minute we decided not to send the invite to my sister's wedding to her..a few weeks after the wedding FH's grandfatehr passed away..my entire family came to the funeral and the shiva and as soona s they walk in the door, FSIL walks right up to my sister and brother in law and says 'Oh, you're the ones who didn't invite me to your wedding!'...SO inappropriate!

So, FMIl understands, but has decided not to get involed. She's tried to speak with FSIL, but FSIL is a mental case, so...

FFIL is not th most supportive guy, but he's ok, still he thinks it's immature for FH not to talk to her... FH and I feel that him talking to her is not a compomise, it's giving her exactly what she wants, which is him and not me. I mean she had the nerve to invite just him to her son's first birthday party. I mean, we'd been dating 4.5 years at the time..you just don't do that! AUGH

Re: Future In-Laws from Heck -- Anyone else? (VENT)

She's 26 (we're 21)...she eloped when she was 18! Anyway, I think she IS totally jealous. I mean who says 'I thought my brother was gay'...*sigh*... Shes really immature for someone married 8 years with a 16 month old and another on the way.

Re: Future In-Laws from Heck -- Anyone else? (VENT)

Sorry to be such a yacker but I read the second post and wanted to offer a suggestion...we tried this for a while but I guess his brother got upset and exploded so we jsut stopped talking but...

For the sake of his parents we decided to be 'civil'. We said hello and good bye at family functions - made small talk if it was initiated by the other person and pretty much just kept comments, looks and opinins under wraps in public. I stopped going crazy for gifts for the kids - especially since we were rarely thanked and they never wore the clothes we bought them. In the case where only FH was invited - personally I wouldn't go BUT that's immature on my part to say. I would suggest in those situations that your FH call her on it - better yet let him go on his own and when people ask where you are he can respectful let them know that you were not invited - turn it around on her!

this girl really sounds like she has some mental problems. she needs medication. seriously...that is not NORMAL behavior.

So sorry that she is being such a biatch. Try not to let her get to you.... Just ignore them. Don't give her the satisfaction by getting all worked up. It's obvious that is trying to be malicious and she doesn't deserve the energy it takes to be upset.

she needs time to get used to you??? PLEASE !!! What are you a disease or something? Please I don't know what I would do(we all have issues with FIL's of our own), but I would definitely steer clear of her and her wacky husband.

Yes, she does sound jealous. Is she happy with her life? It doesn't sound like it. Sounds like she may be envious of her brother's relationship. You've obviously taken the time to date and are taking the time to plan a nice wedding. She may regret eloping so young and is taking her bitterness out on you.
