Does anyone know if Gail Watson does evening or weekend appointments? I left a message but haven't heard back yet. I've called 2 other well-known places in Manhattan and neither of them do weekends or after 5pm. My only option is to go to them by myself which is sad because FH is so into the cake tasting portion of this wedding experience.

Re: Gail Watson Cakes?
Hi, I emailed Gail over the holidays and she does have appointments during the week until 6:30 I believe. I too have been calling around and it's so hard that they don't have any weekend appointments. I am going to make an appointment with gail watson for next week, I am also going to see the cake diva, possibly Colette peters and maybe a few more. I can't wait to see all of their work and to do the tasting...I think I may have to go alone too...or I might bring one of my BM's.

Thanks for the info!! FH keeps asking me when we're going to see the 'lady with the big glasses' Well, the lady with the big glasses () only has appointments from 8:30-3:30 during the week so I guess I'll be flying solo on that one.
I'm also going to try Cheryl Kleinman and Mona Lisa Bakery in Brooklyn. Hopefully, I can bring FH to those!

I too want to see Cheryl Kleinman (such beautiful streamlined cakes) but I have no clue how and when I would get there. Your FI is too funny, I don't think I will see SW b/c I don't really want too many flowers on the cake and I know she specializes in that. It's a pain in the a$$ for me to run to the train station right after work just to make a 6:30 appointment, but I guess I'll have to. We should compare once we see them. I really wanted to have a different looking cake and a lot of flavor choices that's why I am thinking I might like the cakediva, but I'll have to see. http://www.newyorkmetro.com/shopping/guides/weddings/planner/listings/cakes1.htm this is a great site for a lot of bakers in NYC.

I'm actually not doing flowers either so I think SW might be a bit of a waste for me, but I'm wondering if the cake would be a lot cheaper than her usual ones because of the lack of flowers? For me, taste is the big thing and I want some different flavors so I figured I'd try her out. Hopefully, these cakes taste as good as they look!

OMG they better taste amazing for how much they are going to cost. Everyone thinks I'm nuts for wanting a different one than from the hall, but I love wedding cakes and want it to be spectacular. I also am toying with the idea of cake centerpieces so I really want to see what's out there. Good Luck and let me know how you make out....I'll probably post a review when I'm done.
