I am not from Long Island, so I do not know much about places on LI. FH and I are thinking of staying here on our wedding night since we are not leaving for our honeymoon until a few days later. I have been reading reviews (on tripadvisor, etc) and alot of people have complained this place is run down and in desperate need of an overhall.Any opinions?
If you think this place is overated...any suggestions on an upsale hotel on LI? We really dont want to travel into Manhattan that night.

Re: Garden City Hotel
I think the GC Hotel is over rated and overpriced. The rooms are not that great. Try La Quinta Inn also in Garden City on Stewart Ave.

Re: Garden City Hotel
I kept bargaining with my BM for freebies and kept asking if they could add this or that or this and you will be surprised what they will agree too.
But i have it written on my contract.
Try calling and asking it's worth a try just don't use my name lol

Re: Garden City Hotel
I stayed there once and the rooms are ok nothing special. I was actually dissapointed with what the room looked like. The place itself is nice ....but personally I think they are overpriced.

Re: Garden City Hotel
one of my friends stayed at the garden city hotel the night of her wedding and she didn't like it. she said it wasn't anything special and it was a waste of money.
my brother and SIL stayed at fox hollow the night of their wedding (they got married at fox hollow) and thought the room was nice, with a comfortable bed.
i was at the GCH a few weeks ago for a wedding and i was disappointed in the food/drinks and service.
my mom wanted to get me a room there the night of my wedding and i told her not to waste her $, i would rather just go home and sleep.

Re: Garden City Hotel
just lettin you know from experience from my clients.. I myself have never been there so I will just give u the feedback that my clients have told me and my own boss as well.. They all said its in need of serious updating.. One of my clients was put in a room where the bathroom was molded and tub was dirty.. it took them forever to change rooms. once they did they went to a room where the paint was peeling.. then they switched for a third time and they said it was better but still needed a clean and some updating.. so for the money its not worth it in my opinion.. (now my clients are VIP's so I wouldnt necesarily take what they say to heart).. I have heard from friends that had weddings there it was beautiful.. but the rooms to sleep in itself can be better.. then again im sure they have rooms that are more updated si i would request that first! good luck!!:)

Re: Garden City Hotel
Thank you everyone, this is what I thought. Reviews on tripadvisor said that the lobby, reception rooms, etc were in good condition, but the rooms were in need of renovating, peeling paint, mildew in the bathrooms, stained wallpaper. I was very disappointed.
Think I am looking somewhere else.

Re: Garden City Hotel
I'm really surprised to hear anything bad about the GCH - its supposed to be great! We have rooms blocked there for our wedding night. I may call and ask to see if I can get a tour . . .will update if I actually follow through!

Re: Garden City Hotel
I'm staying at the GCH the night before my wedding and the night of my wedding. I also went and got a tour of the rooms before booking. I did not see anything that alarmed me in terms of the rooms... it's a hotel, not my house, so i didn't expect everything to be perfect to my liking. I am also surprised to hear anything bad about it. Disclaimer: Maybe I'm partial b/c I grew up in GC.

Re: Garden City Hotel
You know, there is a new hotel/spa opening in Long Beach, which should be up and running by next year. I think its called the Allegra. Its right on the broadwalk, and i bet there are rooms that look at the water...
